The Dirassa+ guide
Lives

The live on the student’s side: from reminder to replay

Today every live runs on a Google Meet or Zoom link, because the Dirassa+ room is coming “Soon”: the student finds their lives under “Live” in your academy’s portal, reads “This live is on Google Meet” and “The class opens in the Google Meet app. On a phone, install it before the start.” on the live’s page, then presses “Join via Google Meet” when the link opens a quarter of an hour before, which counts them as present; the link stays open to them until half an hour after the planned end. Sound, video and chat happen in the meeting, with no replay from us. What follows describes what the room will add once it opens, not what works today: a waiting room where the student writes a question and sees how much data the live will use, then the live with a short delay, in the quality they choose, a button to raise a hand, notes saved to their notebook, then the chaptered replay. We follow Amina in Ouargla, Khadidja in Béchar on weak 4G and Sara who comes up on stage, in Salim Bouzid’s review. A photography trainee or a marketing workshop attendee sees the same.

  • About 6 minutes to read
  • 7 steps

Who can do it: Every student allowed into the live: a course student, a registrant, a ticket buyer or an invitee.

In 7 steps

  1. 1“Live” in the portal: what’s on air, then “Coming” and “Missed”, the reminder bell and adding lives to a calendar.
  2. 2The waiting room: countdown, a question before the start, the live’s size in MB, and a camera and mic test.
  3. 3Watching: “Normal”, “Saver” or “Audio only” (540, 200 and 14 MB an hour), stepping down on its own on a weak network.
  4. 4“Raise hand”: the teacher invites, checks the voice away from everyone, then the student is on air.
Show all
  1. 5Polls, questions, reactions, and what the teacher pins.
  2. 6“Notes” and “Mark the moment”: kept with their minute in the notebook.
  3. 7After the live: “Watch the replay” with chapters, speed and quality, and picking up where they left off.

Before you start

  • Students sign in from your academy’s portal or app; a visitor who registered on the site uses the live’s link on the device they registered with.
  • No camera or mic needed to watch; only to go on stage.
  • On a Meet or Zoom link: on a phone, the Google Meet or Zoom app installed before the start; on a computer, a browser that opens the meeting. The meeting address only reaches them a quarter of an hour before the start.
  1. Step 1 of 7

    “Live” in the portal

In the student portal: what’s on air now, then what’s coming and what they missed, with a bell for each live.

    • Live nowA red card above the list, and “Join the live”.
    • The bellAn hour before, the day before only, or off.
    • CalendarOne file with every coming live, reminders a day and an hour before.

TipYacine in Montreal sees the 20:00 Algiers review at 15:00 on his clock, and adds it to his phone calendar in one tap.

    All the details

The student portal has a Live page (your coming lives, and the replays of what you missed). What’s on air shows as red cards with Join the live, and the portal header pulses. Then two parts: Coming (this week, next week, later: day and time on the student’s clock, teacher, kind) and Missed (chapters, answered questions, the replay’s saver size, “Watch” or resume at a minute, and “Homework” with due dates at the top). Every coming live has a bell: “Reminder an hour before”, “Reminder the day before only” if it falls at night, or “Reminder off”. Add my lives to my calendar downloads one file with every coming live. A student abroad sees their own time with Algiers time, and between midnight and 7 am on their clock: “Early for you · the replay is included”. On the portal’s home, a live on air, or one whose waiting room is open (a quarter of an hour before by default), becomes the “Now” card at the top, with “Join the live” or “Enter the waiting room”, the page’s only orange button; the course’s lesson moves below it with an outlined button. A live starting within three hours is a row under “Waiting for you” (“Live in 2 h 15 min · 20:00”), and so is “Missed the live?” with “Watch the replay”, for up to three days after a live the student watched less than half of. Inside the course, a “Live class” card in the lesson’s place.

  2. Step 2 of 7

The waiting room: a question, the live’s size, a device check

It opens a quarter of an hour before; the live starts in front of the student by itself when the teacher begins.

    • A question aheadThey write it and vote for classmates’; the teacher sees them first.
    • What it uses≈ 300 MB on saver, ≈ 21 MB audio only, with “Change”.
    • Test your deviceMirror, sound level, a chime; nobody sees them here.

TipAmina writes in the waiting room “Why is the speed squared in Ec?”, 14 classmates vote, and Salim starts with her question.

    All the details

A quarter of an hour before (per your settings), the live’s link becomes the waiting room: “Starts in” with a countdown; after the start time, the teacher is on the way and it starts in a moment. Write your question before the start (the teacher sees it first thing, ranked by classmates’ votes), with “Ask without my name” if you allow it, and a link to classmates’ questions to vote on. Then the data line: ≈ 300 MB on saver, the live’s length and ≈ 21 MB audio only, with “Change”. If the stage is on, Test your camera and mic (to be ready if the teacher invites you) opens “Test your device”: a mirror, a sound level, a chime, and the reassurance that nobody sees or hears you here. At the bottom: watching starts by itself, camera and mic aren’t needed to watch. The room doesn’t connect to the live before it starts, so it uses nothing while waiting.

  3. Step 3 of 7

Watching: quality, data and a weak network

Three qualities with their numbers, a usage counter, and a calm step down when the network weakens.

    • NormalSharp picture 720p, about 540 MB an hour.
    • SaverEnough to read the board, 360p, about 200 MB; phones start here.
    • Audio onlySound and slides as still images, about 14 MB.

TipKhadidja in Béchar on weak 4G: the room switches to “Audio only” by itself; she hears Salim and sees the slide from the file, for about 14 MB an hour instead of 540.

    All the details

This is the Dirassa+ room’s screen once it opens (“Soon”); today the student watches in the Meet or Zoom app. At the top, “Live — under a second of delay”, the network state and “Leave”. In the middle, what the teacher shows (camera, slides, screen, board or a break), and below four buttons: Raise hand, React, the quality, Full screen; on the side “Chat”, “Questions” and “Notes”. Viewing quality (numbers for what’s left): “Normal” (720p), “Saver” (360p, enough to read the board), “Audio only” (with slides as still images), each in MB, and “Used so far”. On saver and audio only, the browser draws the slide from the same PDF, so it stays sharp. Phones start on “Saver”, and the chosen quality is remembered on the device. If the network is weak for 8 seconds, the room steps down a notch by itself (to saver, then sound and slides) without missing any of the teaching; when it recovers, it offers “Back to video”, never forcing it. Students can turn that off: “Switch by itself when the connection weakens”.

  4. Step 4 of 7

“Raise hand”: from the queue to the stage

They raise a hand, the teacher invites them, checks their voice away from everyone, then they go up; they come down whenever they like.

    • Hand raisedThe teacher sees their name in the queue; “Lower it”.
    • The invitationMirror and sound level: go on, sound only, or not now.
    • On stage“You're on air”, and “Leave the stage” any time.

TipSara goes up with “Sound only” to ask about the cart example, then comes down in a tap; no need to open her camera.

    All the details

Raise hand shows “Your hand is raised” and that the teacher sees their name in the queue, with “Lower it”. When the teacher or moderator invites them, The teacher invites you to speak opens: the teacher and viewers will see and hear them, and they can leave the stage any time; a mirror with their name, a sound level, and three buttons: Go on (camera and mic), Sound only, Not now (the hand comes down). If the teacher checks their voice first, they read that only the teacher and moderators hear them for now. Then on stage: You're on air with how many see and hear them, “Mic”, “Camera” and Leave the stage. If their network weakens on stage, their picture stops so they stay audible.

  5. Step 5 of 7

Polls, questions, and what the teacher pins

They vote and see the result when the teacher shows it, ask and vote for classmates’ questions, open what’s pinned.

    • Quick questionPick, then “Vote”; the result when the teacher shows it.
    • Questions“Ask the teacher…”, and a vote on each question.
    • PinnedOpen a link, download a file, buy a product.
    All the details

When the teacher launches a question, a card appears (“A question from the teacher”, or “Quick question” for a quiz): pick, then Vote; they read which answer they chose and that the result shows when the teacher reveals it. Once shown: the result in percentages, “Correct” on the right answer, “Your choice” on theirs. In Questions: “Ask the teacher…” and “Send question”, “Ask without my name” if allowed, and a vote on each question; answered ones are marked. Pinned items show under the picture: a link with “Open”, a file with “Download”, a store product with “Buy” (which opens its page in the academy store). React opens six reactions that float up the edge of the picture.

  6. Step 6 of 7

“Notes” and “Mark the moment”, in the notebook

A note kept with its minute, or a moment marked in one tap; all of it in the notebook, linked to the replay.

    • A noteKept with the minute they started typing.
    • Mark the momentOne tap: a marked moment, to write about later.
    • The notebookEvery time opens the replay at that minute.

TipAmina marks the cart exercise without typing, then comes back to it in her notebook the night before the exam: the replay opens straight at 37:32.

    All the details

In Notes (notes for them alone: an idea, or a moment marked in a tap), the field keeps the minute they started typing, then Save note; Mark the moment keeps the moment with no text and invites them to write more in their notebook later. Notes are for account holders (visitors are asked to sign in). Everything lands in the notebook: one card per live marked “From a live”, each time with “Open the replay at this minute”; notes also show as marks on the replay bar.

  7. Step 7 of 7

After the live: the chaptered replay

The ended live becomes a replay at the same link: chapters, speed, quality with sizes, and the chat as it happened.

    • Pick upBack to the minute they left.
    • ChaptersFrom the slides, questions, polls and the teacher’s marks.
    • The chat as it happenedMessages roll with the video; answered questions jump to their answer.

TipImane missed the live in a power cut: she watches the replay at 1.5, jumps to the quiz from the chapters, and “Audience” counts her replay minutes.

    All the details

At the end, attendees read the end time, then that the recording is ready (with the chat and questions) or being prepared, with Watch the replay or resume at a minute, and “What you missed” in chapters. They get the replay-ready notice if they asked for it. In the replay: a chaptered bar, “Speed” (1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2, 0.75), Replay quality (numbers for the whole class), and a “You stopped here” card with Pick up where you left off or “From the start”. On the side: Chapters (“You are here”), Chat (“Messages appear with the video, as they happened”, with answered questions jumping to their answer), My notes with a “Note” button. If the replay window has passed: “This replay's viewing period has ended”. Replay minutes are counted apart from live attendance.

On screenThe live has endedWatch the replayWhat you missedSpeedReplay qualityPick up where you left offFrom the startChaptersMessages appear with the video, as they happenedMy notesNoteThis replay's viewing period has ended

Heads-upIf the live is full when they try to join, they read “The live is full right now” and get the recording when it’s ready; if the live runs on Meet or Zoom, they see “Join via Google Meet” instead of the room, with no replay from us.

Questions

How much internet does a live use?

About 540 MB an hour on “Normal”, 200 MB on “Saver”, 14 MB on “Audio only”. The waiting room shows the whole live’s size, and “Viewing quality” shows what’s used and what’s left.

Does a student need a camera or mic?

Not to watch. Only to go on stage, and they can go up with “Sound only”.

What if the student’s connection drops?

Quality steps down by itself on a weak network and the room reconnects; if the live ends while they’re out, they read at which minute they dropped and pick up from the replay.

Where do students find their notes?

In their notebook: one card per live, each minute opening the replay there. Notes are for account holders.

Can students always watch the replay?

Depending on your choice: always, 7 or 30 days, or students only. After that, they read that the viewing period has ended.

Can students watch on a phone?

Yes, from the browser or your academy’s app, with buttons within thumb’s reach, starting on “Saver”.
