The post types in a space, and when to use each
In each space’s “Feed” you write to your students, and a post is more than text: nine types, each with its own look and behaviour. A “Discussion” opens a conversation, a “Question” gathers answers and you accept the best, an “Announcement” pins above everything, a “Poll” settles a date with them, a “Quiz” checks understanding in a second, a “Challenge” hides their answers until a time you choose, an “Event” gathers attendance for your class, a “Clip” plays your video inside the post, and a “Resource” files a useful link under the “Links” tab. Here is each type step by step: how to write it, and how a student sees it. The example: Sara Makhloufi, a video-editing trainer at En-Nadjah Academy, in her spaces “October cohort — editing” and “Editing Q&A club”; the same types serve a photography trainer running a photo of the week, or a teacher revising with a class before an exam.
- A minute per post
- 11 steps
Who can do it: Every type needs the “Community & moderation” permission (owner, admin, teacher, assistant). Students write only “Discussion” and “Question”, and in a space only when “Members open threads” is on; in the general space they can always write.
In 11 steps
- 1Type in “Write in …”, press “+” to choose the post type, then the post button or Ctrl+Enter.
- 2“Discussion”: plain text members comment on and like.
- 3“Question”: members answer in comments, and you press “Accept as answer” on the right one.
- 4“Announcement”: highlighted text; turn on “Pin to top” to keep it above the feed.
Show all
- 5“Resource”: paste a link and it becomes a card, gathered under the “Links” tab.
- 6“Poll”: two to six options, closing after 24h if you like, results shown after voting.
- 7“Quiz”: two to four options, tick the right one, add an explanation shown after answering.
- 8“Challenge”: set “Answers revealed at”, and each student answers in a comment nobody else sees until then.
- 9“Event”: “Starts”, “Ends”, the place or meeting link; members reply “Going”, “Maybe” or “Can't”.
- 10“Clip”: “Upload”, “Library” or “Link”, and post before processing ends.
- 11Manage your posts: “Edit”, “Pin”, “Delete post”, “Publish without notifying”, “Copy to another space” and “Copy link”.
Before you start
- At least one space: see the lesson “How to create a space”.
- The “Community & moderation” permission to write every type.
- For a “Clip” uploaded or from the library: permission to edit lessons, otherwise you attach a link.
- A clear decision: do your students start threads? That’s in “Settings” → “Members open threads”.
- Step 1 of 11
The writing box and the “+” button: pick the type
In the “Feed” tab a box reads “Write in October cohort — editing…” (your space’s name). Type the text: every type needs it, even a poll or a clip, because it says what you are posting (up to 2,000 characters). The “+” button beside it opens the “Post type” menu in two groups: “Post type” (“Discussion”, “Question”, “Announcement”) and “Attach” (“Resource”, “Poll”, “Clip”, “Quiz”, “Challenge”, “Event”), each with a line explaining it. Picking a type puts its badge in the box, with ✕ to go back to “Discussion”, and shows its fields under the text; each type keeps its fields if you switch away and back. Then the round post button, or Ctrl+Enter (⌘+Enter on a Mac). On a phone, the box opens a “Write” sheet with the same choices.
On screenFeedWrite in …Post typeAttachDiscussionQuestionAnnouncementResourcePollClipQuizChallengeEventPostWriteTipA student sees only “Discussion” and “Question” under “+”. If you turn off “Members open threads”, the box doesn’t show for them at all; they can still comment.
Heads-upIf “Couldn't publish — try again.” appears, nothing was posted: check the type’s fields (an incomplete link, no right answer ticked), then press again.
- Step 2 of 11
“Discussion”: an open conversation
The default: if you pick nothing from “+”, your post is a “Discussion” (“An ordinary thread”). It shows your name, your role and the time, with no type badge. Under it members press “Like” (the heart turns red) and “Comment”, write in “Write a comment…” and send with Enter (Shift+Enter for a new line). Like and comment counts update on their own, without reloading. Example: Sara writes “Who finished the cut-on-the-beat exercise? Share your method in the comments.” Yacine and Ines each answer with their method, and the others learn from both.
On screenDiscussionAn ordinary threadLikeCommentWrite a comment…SendTipLong text folds after a few lines with “Read more”, so don’t hold back on a detailed explanation. Links inside the text aren’t clickable; for an important link use “Resource”.
- Step 3 of 11
“Question”: answers, and you accept the right one
A “Question” (“An answer can be accepted”) carries the “Question” badge and is gathered under the “Questions” tab, whose counter counts questions with no accepted answer. Members answer in comments; under each comment you see “Accept as answer”: the comment turns green with the “Accepted” badge, and the “Accepted answer” appears under the question with its text and author, for anyone passing by without reading every comment. “Unaccept” undoes it. Example: Ines asks “Why does my preview stutter when the computer is powerful?”; you get a notification in your inbox, and Sara accepts “Make lighter proxy files for the preview, then export from the originals.”
On screenQuestionAn answer can be acceptedQuestionsAccept as answerAcceptedAccepted answerUnacceptTipOn a phone, a student finds a square button with a question mark beside the writing box that opens a “Question” directly.
Heads-upA question stays “unanswered” in the counter and in “Space health” until you accept an answer, even with ten replies. Only a moderator accepts, not the asker.
- Step 4 of 11
“Announcement”: what everyone must see
An “Announcement” (“Highlighted, can be pinned”) is for you and your team only. A short one (one line, about 90 characters) shows in large type, like a headline. Turn on “Pin to top” before posting and it stays in the “Pinned” strip above the whole feed; a tap leads to the post. It notifies every member set to “Teacher only” or “Every post”. Example: “Tomorrow's revision class starts at 18:00 instead of 17:00.”, pinned until the class, then unpinned.
On screenAnnouncementHighlighted, can be pinnedPin to topPinnedUnpinTipSeveral posts can be pinned, but the strip shows only the first. Pin one at a time and unpin the old one.
- Step 5 of 11
“Resource”: a useful link, in its place
A “Resource” (“A useful link”) adds the “Link” field: paste the address; forget https:// and the platform adds it. The post becomes a card with the site, the path and an arrow, opening in a new tab, and joins every resource under the “Links” tab, where a student finds it weeks later without scrolling the feed. It can be pinned. Example: Sara posts a free music library, pixabay.com/music, with “A free music library to use in your videos.”
On screenResourceA useful linkLinkLinksPin to topTipA file on Google Drive or Dropbox becomes a resource through its share link. A full lesson belongs in the course, not in a resource.
Heads-upA resource is a link only: posts don’t take file uploads. If “This link isn't valid — check it and paste it again.” appears, the address is incomplete or wrong.
- Step 6 of 11
“Poll”: decide with them
A “Poll” (“Options and votes”) adds lettered options A, B, C: write at least two, “Add option” up to six, ✕ to remove one. “Closes after 24h” is ticked by default; untick it to keep the poll open. A blank option is simply left out when you post. A student sees the options as buttons; once they vote, percentages and bars appear with a tick on their choice, and they can change their vote until it closes, then “closed”. You see the results from the start without voting. Example: “When should we add a revision class this week?” — Saturday morning 58%, Tuesday evening 27%, Thursday evening 15%.
On screenPollOptions and votesOption 1Add optionCloses after 24hclosedTipVoters’ names are shown to nobody on the page. Ask freely what your students prefer.
Heads-upOptions and the closing time can’t change after posting: “Edit” changes the text only. Check them before you post.
- Step 7 of 11
“Quiz”: one question, one right answer
A “Quiz” (“One question, one right answer, an explanation”) adds two to four options, each with a “Mark as correct” circle. No option is right by default: the hint “Tick the correct answer” stays and the quiz won’t post until you choose. Then “Explanation shown after answering (optional)”. A student has “One attempt”: they tap an option, the card turns green “Correct” or amber “Not quite”, the right one ticked ✓ and theirs ✕, then they read the explanation and see “24 answered”. You don’t answer: you see the “Correct answer”, the spread of answers and “75% answered correctly”. Example: “How many frames are in 2 seconds of a 30 fps video?” — 30, 60, 120; explanation “2 × 30 = 60 frames”.
On screenQuizOne question, one right answer, an explanationMark as correctTick the correct answerExplanation shown after answering (optional)One attemptCorrectNot quiteCorrect answerTipThe right answer is kept away from the post: no student can learn it before answering. If fewer than half get it right, that’s your next post.
Heads-upA quiz checks understanding in the moment, not marks: it isn’t part of exam papers or results. For a real assessment, use an exam paper.
- Step 8 of 11
“Challenge”: everyone answers alone until the time
A “Challenge” (“Answers sealed until a time”) adds “Answers revealed at”: a date and time (today 20:00 by default), with “Until then each student sees only their own answer.” In the feed an amber box shows “Answers hidden — revealed in 3 hours” and “Answer in a comment; nobody sees it until the bell.” Each student answers in a comment only they can see; you see every answer. At the time the box turns green, “Answers revealed” — “Time's up — all answers are visible.” Example: “Thursday challenge: which shortcut cuts the clip at the playhead in Premiere?” — nobody copies anyone else’s answer.
On screenChallengeAnswers sealed until a timeAnswers revealed atAnswers hiddenAnswers revealedTipA photography trainer turns it into a “photo of the week”: one theme, answers revealed on Friday evening, and everyone sees all the photos together.
Heads-upBefore the time, the comment count doesn’t tell students how many have answered: each sees only their own. Don’t announce “20 answered” before the reveal if you want an honest challenge.
- Step 9 of 11
“Event”: a dated class or meeting
An “Event” (“A dated class or meeting”) adds “Starts” (today 18:00 by default) and “Ends” (optional), “Place (optional)” and “Meeting link (optional)” — Meet or Zoom, with https:// added for you. “The end is before the start — fix the time.” if you slip. In the feed: the date tile, the day and time, a “Soon” badge within 24 hours, then “Happening now” while it runs, and a “Join” button if you added a link. Members reply “Going”, “Maybe” or “Can't” and can change any time; “22 going” shows. After the end (or two hours after the start with no end): “This event has passed”. It can be pinned. Example: “Live class: colour grading with Lumetri — bring your footage.”, Thursday 18:00–19:30.
On screenEventStartsEndsPlace (optional)Meeting link (optional)SoonHappening nowJoinGoingMaybeCan'tThis event has passedTipThe “Going” count tells you before the class how many to expect. Times show in the student’s device time zone.
Heads-upAn event creates no live stream and no booking: it is a post with a date and a link. For live classes inside the platform, use “Live”.
- Step 10 of 11
“Clip”: a video that plays inside the post
A “Clip” (“A video that plays inside the post”) offers three ways: “Upload” a video from your device (“Uploading” with its percentage, and “Keep writing — processing finishes after you post.”), “Library” to pick a video you already uploaded for your lessons, or “Link” to YouTube or Vimeo, then “Attach”. After uploading: “Processing · 45%” — “You can post now — it appears for members as soon as processing ends.” In the feed: the video’s picture, its length and a play button; nothing loads until it’s pressed. Example: “Exercise 4 worked — cutting on the beat”, before Thursday’s class.
On screenClipA video that plays inside the postUploadLibraryLinkAttachUploadingTipAn uploaded video is protected like your lesson videos and counts toward your plan’s storage.
Heads-upUpload and the library need permission to edit lessons; otherwise: “Uploading and the library need permission to edit lessons — you can attach a link.” A link other than YouTube or Vimeo shows as a link that opens in a new tab. Clips can’t be pinned.
- Step 11 of 11
Manage your posts: edit, pin, delete, notify, copy
Each post has buttons that appear on hover (always on a phone): “Edit” for its author, changing the text only, then “Save”, and “· edited” appears; “Pin” / “Unpin”; “Delete post” then “Confirm delete” — final, with its comments; and “Copy to another space” on your team’s posts: choose spaces in “Copy to spaces” (“An independent post in each space…”), with “Copy without notifying” if you like, then “Copy”. Before posting: the crossed-out bell “Publish without notifying”, and a line under the box says who will hear: “Will notify 38 members” or “No notification will be sent”. “Copy link” copies the post’s link as a student opens it, ready for WhatsApp. You can also delete any member’s comment with “Delete comment”.
On screenEditSaveeditedPinUnpinDelete postConfirm deleteCopy to another spaceCopy to spacesCopy without notifyingCopyPublish without notifyingNo notification will be sentCopy linkDelete commentTipNotifications don’t ring between 22:00 and 06:30 (Algiers time): what you post at night arrives in the morning. The same announcement for three spaces: write it once and copy it; each copy keeps its own comments.
Heads-upDeleting can’t be undone. You can’t edit a student’s post: delete it or comment on it.
Once you know the types
- Plan a weekMonday announcement, Tuesday poll, Thursday challenge, Friday correction clip.
- Set notifications“Member notifications” in settings decides whose phone rings for each post.
- Answer questions“Today”, beside the space, counts questions with no accepted answer.
- Let students write“Members open threads” makes the space a club, not a stage.
Questions
What’s the difference between “Question” and “Discussion”?
A “Question” is gathered under the “Questions” tab and counts as unanswered until you press “Accept as answer” on a comment; the “Accepted answer” then shows under it. A “Discussion” is an ordinary thread with no accepting.
Can students post a poll or an announcement?
No. Students write only “Discussion” and “Question”, and in a space only if “Members open threads” is on. Other types need “Community & moderation”, and the platform refuses them even when tried from outside the page.
Can I schedule a post for later?
There is no scheduling today: a post goes out when you press. Its notification, though, doesn’t ring between 22:00 and 06:30, so it arrives in the morning.
Can I attach a PDF or an image?
Posts don’t take file uploads. Put the file on Google Drive and post its link as a “Resource”; for video, use “Clip”.
How do I see a quiz result without answering?
You don’t answer at all: your card shows the “Correct answer”, the spread, how many answered and the share who got it right.
Do students see each other’s answers in a “Challenge”?
Not before the time: each student sees only their own comments, and you see everything. After “Answers revealed at”, every answer becomes visible to everyone.
Why doesn’t my video link play inside the post?
Uploaded or library videos play inside the post, and so do YouTube and Vimeo links. Other links show as a link that opens in a new tab, and the platform warns you before you post.
Can I edit a poll’s options after posting?
No. “Edit” changes the text only. If an option is wrong, delete the post and post again before anyone votes.
