Generate a lesson’s questions in Dirassa Studio

Recorded and transcribed your lesson in Dirassa Studio? The “Quizzes” module writes questions of seven kinds from it; each knows the concept it tests and the second you explained it at, so a student who gets it wrong goes back to that moment. You review them one by one, send them to a lesson on Dirassa Plus, and later draw a module or course exam from them for free.

  • About 5 minutes
  • 7 steps

Who can do it: Requires a computer linked to your school in Dirassa Studio, and permission to edit lessons in your role.

In 7 steps

  1. 1Open “Quizzes” under “Teach” in Dirassa Studio and pick a recording under “Ready”.
  2. 2Questions are built from your knowledge map or the timed transcript; add a PDF handout, or start from the PDF alone.
  3. 3Choose “What is it for”, the “Number of questions” from 3 to 40, and the “Question types”.
  4. 4Press “Write the questions · N coins”: 1 coin per 20 questions, refunded if writing fails.

  1. 5Review every question: edit it, remove it, or “Approve”.
  2. 6“Publish to a lesson”: they become the “Lesson questions” on the web; then publish or update the lesson.
  3. 7Assemble a module or course exam from your bank, for free, and publish it on the web.

Before you start

  • Dirassa Studio installed on your computer and linked to your school; download it from “Downloads & devices” in the dashboard (/dashboard/studio/downloads).
  • Your recordings transcribed: a recording without a transcript shows under “Needs a transcript first”.
  • Coins in “Balance”: 1 coin per 20 questions. An exam drawn from the bank is free.
  • The lesson that will receive the questions exists in your course on Dirassa Plus.
  1. Step 1 of 7

Open “Quizzes” and pick a recording

In Dirassa Studio’s sidebar, under “Teach”, open the “Quizzes” module (“Questions from your lesson, anchored to its minutes”). The “Questions your lesson already answers” page offers three ways in: “Exam for a module or a whole course”, marked “Free”, then “Or write new questions from a recording”: the “From a PDF handout” card and the “Ready” list of your transcribed recordings, each with its length (“24 min”), “has a map” when it has a knowledge map, and “Draft” when questions are waiting in it. Below, “Needs a transcript first”: recordings not transcribed yet.

TipA recording under “Needs a transcript first”? Transcribe it first (“Transcribe this lesson, then its questions are one click away.”) and it moves to “Ready”.

  2. Step 2 of 7

    Where the questions come from

Pick the recording, say “Limits — Lesson 3” (24 min). A line at the top names the source: “Built from your knowledge map — the concepts you reviewed yourself” when it has a knowledge map, otherwise “Built from the timed transcript · N lines”. Each question takes its second from there. Then “Add a PDF handout (optional)”: your notes or exercise sheet, up to 12 MB and 80 pages, even scanned; a question drawn from it carries its page (“p. 3”). No recording? Start from the “From a PDF handout” card on the first page: “Exercises or notes, even scanned — no recording needed”.

TipA PDF over 80 pages? Export only this lesson’s chapter; over 12 MB, export a lighter copy.

  3. Step 3 of 7

    Purpose, count and types

In “What is it for” you choose the purpose, not the types, and the rest follows: “Quick check” right after the lesson, unlimited attempts, answers shown at once — 6 questions. “Marked homework”: one attempt, result at the end, with ordering and matching — 10 questions. “Exam”: sixty minutes, one attempt, shuffled, no going back, results after it closes, with fill-in and short answer — 15 questions. Set the “Number of questions” between 3 and 40; the coin price updates beneath it. “Question types” shows the purpose’s mix; press “Adjust” to choose from seven: multiple choice, multiple answers, true / false, fill the blank, ordering, matching, short answer.

TipThe purpose also sets the paper’s rules on the web (attempts, duration, when results show), which you can change there later.

  4. Step 4 of 7

    Write the questions

Press “Write the questions · N coins”. The price is 1 coin per 20 questions: 3 to 20 questions, 1 coin; 21 to 40, 2. The button turns to “Writing…” and four stages pass: “Reading the lesson…”, “Choosing the concepts and their seconds…”, “Writing the questions…” and “Checking every question…”, in about 17 to 40 seconds. “You review every question before anything reaches a student. Nothing is published automatically.” The price is reserved first and refunded in full if writing fails or fewer than half the questions pass the check.

TipYour balance and its spending live in Dirassa Studio’s “Balance” module, and on the web under “Coins” (/dashboard/studio/coins).

Heads-up“Your balance is not enough.” charges nothing: top up, then press the button again.

  5. Step 5 of 7

    Review and approve every question

You get “N questions” and the “N/N approved” counter. Each card shows its number, type and anchor: the minute in the recording (“· 3:42”) or the page in the handout (“· p. 3”). Edit the text, the options, “Mark as the correct answer” or “True” / “False”, and the explanation (“Why this is the answer — the student reads it after answering.”). “Approve” turns it “Approved”; “Remove” drops it; “Approve all” once you’ve read them. Your work is “Saved on this Mac. Leave and come back — it will be here.”

TipApproval is what a module exam uses later: “Approved questions only” draws from the ones you read.

Heads-up“Rewrite” writes a new set and charges for it again. If most are good, edit or remove instead.

  6. Step 6 of 7

    Send them to a lesson

Press “Publish to a lesson” and you’re asked “Which lesson is this quiz for?”: pick the course, then the lesson. Before sending, Dirassa Studio checks the questions and names any Dirassa Plus would refuse, so you can edit or remove them. Then the card “N questions are now in this lesson:” (Course / Unit / Lesson). They are now the lesson’s “Lesson questions” on the web; to reuse one in another paper, find it in “From my earlier papers” from that paper’s editor. If the lesson is a draft: “The lesson is still a draft, so students can't see the quiz yet.” and “Publish the lesson now”; if it’s published: “The lesson is live, but students see the version from before the quiz.” and “Update the published lesson”.

TipThe seconds point to this recording, so send the questions to the lesson that carries its video: a student who gets one wrong taps “Watch “…”” and lands on that second.

Heads-up“Dirassa+ won't publish this lesson yet:” means the questions arrived but the lesson lacks something (title, content, an unfinished block): complete it in the lesson editor, then publish. To change attempts, duration or when results show, open the “Lesson questions” on the web, then “Rules”.

  7. Step 7 of 7

An exam from your bank, for free

From the first page, choose “Exam for a module or a whole course”, then the course: “An exam from your question bank” shows how many questions you’ve approved. Set “Questions in the exam” (“Nothing is generated, so nothing is charged.”), “Approved questions only”, the “Kind” (marked homework or exam) and the “Modules” it covers, each with a share you pin or leave on “auto”. Press “Draw N questions”, or “Draw others”. Then “Where does the exam sit?”: at the end of a module, or “Exams list only”, and “Create the exam”. It lands as a draft; set its window and publish it on the web.

Tip“Exams list only” keeps the exam in the “Papers” tab with no place in the curriculum — for a paper you hand out yourself.

Questions

How much do the questions cost?

1 coin per 20 questions, rounded up: 3 to 20 questions, 1 coin; 25 or 40 questions, 2. The price is on the button before you press it. An exam assembled from your bank is free.

What if writing fails?

The price is reserved first and refunded in full if writing fails, or if fewer than half the questions pass the check. “Your balance is not enough.” charges nothing. “Rewrite”, though, is a new request and is charged.

My lesson is in darija — what language are the questions in?

The lesson’s language. A lesson in Algerian darija gets its questions in plain Modern Standard Arabic, because students read a question rather than hear it.

A question comes from a page of the handout — what does the student see?

When they get it wrong they see “Review page N of the handout”, which opens the lesson. The PDF you added in the Studio isn’t uploaded to the lesson, so attach it to the lesson yourself (a PDF block or “Files”).

I sent questions I hadn’t approved — are they lost?

No. Every question sent reaches the lesson as its “Lesson questions”; unapproved ones stay marked, and a module exam leaves them out when you choose “Approved questions only”.

How is Dirassa Studio different from Noqta in the web paper editor?

The Studio writes from your recording on your computer (its map or transcript) and a PDF up to 80 pages, in seven types and 3 to 40 questions, paid in coins. Noqta on the web reads your lessons on the platform — text, video moments, handouts — up to 8 lessons, and writes 3 to 20 questions in four types. Either way, nothing reaches a student before you review it.

Can I edit the questions after sending them?

Yes, on the web: open the lesson’s “Lesson questions”, edit any question and the “Rules”, then “Update the lesson”. Rules apply at once, even on a published paper.

Is my work kept if I close Dirassa Studio?

Yes, unsent questions stay on your computer, and the recording shows “Draft” under “Ready” so you can pick up where you left off.
