Set up a space

Every space’s “Settings” tab holds what you decided when you created it, and what can only be decided here: more than one rule for who comes in, what reaches members as notifications, the payment methods for this offer, archiving and restoring. Each part saves its own way, so learn which before you start. The examples are Sara Makhloufi’s spaces at En-Nadjah Academy: the free “Editing Q&A club”, “October cohort — editing” at 1,500 DZD a month and “Content creator bundle” at 4,000 DZD a month. A photography trainer, a marketing coach or a high-school teacher will find exactly the same settings.

  • About 5 minutes
  • 7 steps

Who can do it: Requires the “Community and moderation” permission, which covers everything on this page, price and payment methods included. The “Manage workspace payment methods” link shows for anyone with “Payment settings”.

In 7 steps

  1. 1Open “Settings” in the space, edit the “Identity”, then “Save”.
  2. 2Set “Offer and access”: price, period, “Joining” and “Members open threads”.
  3. 3Choose “Member notifications”: every post, teacher only, or off.
  4. 4Add or remove the rules of “Who may join?” — they save instantly.

  1. 5Pick in “What does membership unlock?” the courses members get into.
  2. 6Open “Payment methods for this offer” and save the methods and the recommendation.
  3. 7Archive the space when it has run its course, and restore it whenever you like.

Before you start

  • A space already created; if not, start with the guide “Create a space”.
  • The “Community and moderation” permission in your role.
  • Payment methods set up in your workspace if the space is paid.
  • Knowing who joined and how: changing the rules affects those who joined by themselves.
  1. Step 1 of 7

Open “Settings” and edit the “Identity”

Inside the space, after “Feed”, “Questions”, “Links” and “Members” comes the “Settings” tab (or the “Settings” button in the space’s header, or the gear on its row in “Spaces”). The first part is “Identity”: “Icon & colour” — the same panel you met when creating it — the “Space name” (up to 120 characters) and the “Tagline” (up to 160). What you change here and in “Offer and access” doesn’t save by itself: a bar appears at the foot of the screen with “Unsaved changes”, “Discard” and “Save”, then “Saved”. Example: Sara changes the tagline of “October cohort — editing” to “Sunday class 18:00, the week’s summary and editing exercises”.

On screenSettingsIdentityIcon & colourSpace nameTaglineUnsaved changesDiscardSaveSaved

TipThe page has three ways of saving, and each part says which: “Identity” and “Offer and access” use the “Save” bar; “Who may join?” and “What does membership unlock?” carry the “Saves instantly” badge; “Payment methods for this offer” has its own “Save payment methods” button.

  2. Step 2 of 7

“Offer and access”: price, period and joining

The “Price (DZD)” — 0 means “Free” — and the “Period” when the price is above zero: “Monthly”, “Quarterly”, “Yearly” or “One-time”. Then “Joining”; for a free space there are three: “Instant” (“Anyone the rules allow joins instantly, in one tap.”), “On approval” (the student asks, you’re notified, you approve or decline from the Members tab, and the student is told when you approve) and “Closed” (“Nobody asks — you add every member yourself.”). As soon as you type a price above zero, “On approval” disappears and “Instant” and “Closed” remain, because the payment is the door. Below sits “Members open threads” (“Comments always stay open.”). Example: if Sara made the “Editing Q&A club” 500 DZD a month while it is “On approval”, it would switch to “Instant” before she even saved.

On screenOffer and accessPrice (DZD)FreePeriodOne-timeJoiningInstantOn approvalClosedMembers open threads

TipFrom paid to free: a student whose subscription lapsed comes back with one tap on “Join”, like any student a rule allows.

Heads-upChanging the price or period doesn’t touch those who paid: each subscriber keeps their end date, and an open order keeps its price and terms. Those who joined for free before the space became paid stay members without paying.

  3. Step 3 of 7

“Member notifications”: what reaches their phones

“Member notifications” sets what arrives by default: “Every post” — everything posted, by you and by students; “Teacher only” — your announcements, files and events, without students’ questions, the value of every new space; or “Off”. It applies to every member who hasn’t chosen and to anyone who joins later, and saves with the “Save” bar. Each student has a bell in the space that opens “Notifications for this space” — “You decide what reaches you.” — where “Default here” marks your choice; theirs wins over yours. Example: in the “Editing Q&A club” 64 members write their questions, so Sara keeps “Teacher only” and not every phone rings with every question.

On screenMember notificationsEvery postTeacher onlyOffNotifications for this spaceDefault here

TipNothing rings between 22:00 and 06:30 Algiers time; anything posted at night arrives in the morning. In a space where only you post, “Every post” and “Teacher only” come to the same thing.

  4. Step 4 of 7

    “Who may join?”: the rules

This part carries “Saves instantly”: a rule is added or removed the moment you press. A rule says who sees the space and may join or subscribe — free or paid — and one matching rule is enough. Pick the kind: “All students”, “Course buyers” or “A group”, then “Pick…”, then “Add”; a rule that already exists is never offered twice. The rules show as a list: “All students enrolled in a course”, “Buyers of “…””, “Group “…””. Example: the “Editing Q&A club” is for the buyers of “Editing from scratch”; Sara adds “Buyers of “Video colour grading”” and buyers of either course can come in. To remove a rule, press ✕, read what will happen, then “Remove rule” or “Cancel”.

On screenWho may join?Saves instantlyAll studentsCourse buyersA groupPick…AddAll students enrolled in a courseRemove ruleCancel

TipWith no rule you read: “With no rule, nobody will see this space. Add one, or set joining to “closed”.” And in a closed space: “Invite only: you add members yourself from the Members tab.”

Heads-upRemoving a rule lets go of those who joined by themselves and match no other rule: they lose the space and its courses. Paid members and those you added stay.

  5. Step 5 of 7

“What does membership unlock?”: the included courses

A list of your courses with a box for each, marked “Saves instantly”. What you tick is “Open while the subscription runs; they close themselves when it ends.”: every member gets in without buying it separately, and keeps their progress if they renew. In “Content creator bundle” Sara ticks “Editing from scratch”: every subscriber at 4,000 DZD a month studies the whole course while their subscription runs. In a free space, a warning shows above the list: “This space is free: these courses will open free to everyone who enters it.”

On screenWhat does membership unlock?Saves instantlyThis space is free: these courses will open free to everyone who enters it.No courses yet.

TipThe student sees “Includes 1 course” on the space before entering, so they know what they’re buying.

Heads-upA paid course included in a free space becomes free for all its members. Do it only on purpose.

  6. Step 6 of 7

    “Payment methods for this offer”

In a paid space, a “Payment methods for this offer” box appears inside “Offer and access”; open it. “Use workspace settings” is ticked at first: the student is shown every method ready in your school. Untick it to choose yourself among “CCP / Algérie Poste”, “BaridiMob”, “EDAHABIA & CIB — Chargily” and “Visa / Mastercard”, each with its status — “Ready”, “Setup needed” or “Disabled in workspace” — and only ready ones can be ticked. Then “Recommended” (or “No recommendation”) to put one method forward, and “Save payment methods” — this box’s own button — which shows “Payment methods saved”. “Student preview” shows what they will see: the price, “One month of access”, “One payment for this period, with no automatic charge or renewal.”, and the methods.

On screenPayment methods for this offerUse workspace settingsCCP / Algérie PosteBaridiMobEDAHABIA & CIB — ChargilyVisa / MastercardReadySetup neededDisabled in workspaceRecommendedNo recommendationSave payment methodsStudent previewManage workspace payment methods

TipExample: for “October cohort — editing”, Sara keeps the workspace settings and makes “EDAHABIA & CIB — Chargily” “Recommended”: whoever pays with it gets in at once, and whoever pays by CCP uploads a receipt that she checks in “Incoming”. Save the price with the “Save” bar before this box: the box and its preview read the saved offer.

Heads-up“Visa / Mastercard” isn’t available on the platform right now and stays “Setup needed”. If no ready method is left you read “No payment method is ready for this offer…”, and nobody can pay.

  7. Step 7 of 7

    “Archive space” and “Restore”

At the foot of the page, the “Archive space” card: “Hidden from students, and its included courses stop unlocking. Its content stays stored, and you can restore it any time.” Press “Archive”, then “Yes, archive” (or “Cancel”), and you’re back on “Spaces”. The space then sits under the “Archived” filter; open its settings and you read “Archived space” with a “Restore” button, which brings it back as it was: members, rules and courses. Example: once the October cohort finishes its programme in December, Sara archives “October cohort — editing” rather than leave it open and silent.

    On screenArchive spaceArchiveYes, archiveCancelArchivedArchived spaceRestore

TipOn the “Spaces” page, select several spaces: “Archive” appears with a confirmation; under the “Archived” filter the button becomes “Restore”.

Heads-upArchiving closes the included courses to members at once: don’t archive a bundle whose subscribers still have time left.

Questions

Why didn’t the “Save” bar appear when I added a rule?

Because rules and included courses save the moment you click; their parts carry the “Saves instantly” badge. The “Save” bar is for “Identity” and “Offer and access”, and “Payment methods for this offer” has its own “Save payment methods” button.

Does changing the price change anything for those who paid?

No. Each subscriber keeps their end date, and an open order keeps its price and terms. The new price applies to every new payment, renewals included.

A student joined by themselves and then I removed the rule: what happens to them?

If no other rule matches them, they lose the space and its included courses, which is why ✕ asks you first. Paid members and those you added are not affected.

Can a student change the notifications I chose?

Yes. “Member notifications” is a default for whoever hasn’t chosen. Each student changes it for themselves from the space’s bell, and can also mute it for 8 hours or a week.

Where do I delete a space for good?

There is no delete. Archiving hides it from students and keeps everything, and “Restore” brings it back as it was.

Can I edit a space’s address, description or cover?

No. “Settings” edits the identity only: icon, colour, name and tagline. The address is made by itself when the space is created.

Who sees “Month revenue” and who approves subscription receipts?

“Month revenue” needs “View payments”. Approving a subscription receipt in “Incoming” needs “Approve payments”, and so does “Extend” in “Members”. The settings themselves only need “Community and moderation”.
