The Dirassa+ guide
Dirassa Studio

Make a printable booklet from your lesson in Dirassa Studio

Taught a lesson and recorded it? The “Lesson booklets” module reads what was said, writes its chapters, designs its pages in your identity and draws its figures: a complete A4 booklet, with a cover, an introduction, chapters and a closing page. You edit it by clicking anything on its pages, then save it as a PDF to print, or attach it to its lesson on Dirassa Plus for your students.

  • A few minutes, then as much editing as you like
  • 4 steps

Who can do it: Requires a computer linked to your school in Dirassa Studio, and permission to edit lessons in your role.

In 4 steps

  1. 1Open “Lesson booklets”, then “New booklet”: choose “Recorded lesson” or “Paste text”, the “Dirassa+ lesson” it belongs to, and the “Length”.
  2. 2“Create the booklet”: 2 coins for brief, 3 for standard, 4 for complete; charged at the start and returned in full if you cancel or it fails.
  3. 3Edit by clicking the page: hand edits are free, each idea under “Ideas” costs 1 coin once it works, and “Another look” 3.
  4. 4“Save as PDF” to print, or “Attach to its lesson”; every booklet stays on the “Booklets” page.

Before you start

  • This module is in Dirassa Studio 0.1.6 and later. If you don’t see it, update the app: the update arrives on its own, or download the latest from “Downloads & devices”.
  • Dirassa Studio installed and linked to your school; download it from “Downloads & devices” in the dashboard (/dashboard/studio/downloads).
  • The module is marked “Beta”. If its card says “Under repair”, it is closed in your version and will not open: install the latest version first.
  • A lesson recorded and transcribed in the Studio, or a lesson’s text you paste yourself.
  • Your identity in “My identity”: the name, logo and colours the booklet is designed with.
  • Coins under “Balance”: 2, 3 or 4 per booklet, by its length. Reopening and exporting an old booklet is free.
  1. Step 1 of 4

Choose the lesson and the length

In Dirassa Studio’s sidebar, under “Teach”, open “Lesson booklets”, then “New booklet”. First the “Lesson”: “Recorded lesson” lists your recordings with their length, and one not transcribed yet shows “Needs a transcript”; or “Paste text” to paste the lesson’s text or transcript. Picking a recording fills the “Title” with its name, and links its Dirassa+ lesson if you sent it there. Then the “Subject”, and the “Dirassa+ lesson”: “Choose the lesson” from your courses, and “The booklet is filed under this lesson, and attaching it to the lesson takes one click.”. Then the “Length”, each with its price beside it: “Brief” (“3 chapters · the essentials”) for 2 coins, “Standard” (“5 chapters · examples and exercises”) for 3, “Complete” (“7 chapters · the complete reference”) for 4. If you like, add “A note for the author (optional)”, such as “Focus on the exercises; the exam is next week…”. At the bottom, “Designed with your identity”: your name, logo and colours from “My identity”, and “Edit” opens it.

TipLike the look of a booklet you made? In its editor, on the “Design” tab, press “Make it my series style”. From then on “New booklet” offers “Follow my series style”, and the new booklet takes the same fonts, colours and cover.

Heads-upThe booklet is as good as what was said in the lesson: it is written from the transcript or the text you pasted. If it has obvious mistakes, fix the transcript in the editor first, or paste a corrected version under “Paste text”. Text that is too short keeps the button off: “Add a little more text…”.

  2. Step 2 of 4

    Create the booklet

Under the form are “Ready in about a minute” and your balance (“Balance: 37 coins”); on the “Create the booklet” button, the price of the length you chose. It is charged at the start, and the creation screen walks through four stages: “Reading the lesson”, “Designing the pages”, “Writing the chapters” one by one, then “Laying out the pages”, while Noqta says what she is doing, such as “Writing chapter 2 of 5…”. The Studio reads what was said and plans the chapters, picks a look for the booklet that fits your identity (cover, fonts, colours), writes the chapters and draws their figures, then lays out the pages itself on A4 paper. When it is done, the booklet opens with its page count.

TipWant to stop it? “Cancel” stops the writing and returns the price: “Cancelled.” then “Your coins were returned.”. If it fails you see “The booklet could not be created” and “Your coins were returned.”, with “Try again” or “Back to the settings” to find the form as you left it.

Heads-upDon’t close Dirassa Studio while it creates: it runs the writing from your computer. You can move on to something else inside it: the booklet’s card stays “Being created” with “Open the progress”, and “Your booklet «…» is ready in Booklets.” tells you when it’s done. If your balance falls short you see “Not enough coins for this booklet.” and “Top up”.

  3. Step 3 of 4

Edit it by clicking the page

The booklet opens with its page count and “Lesson: …” if you linked one; page through it, zoom it, and jump to the “Contents” or the “Cover”. Press “Edit”: “Click anything on a page — or in the structure — to edit it.”. The “Structure” shows the “Cover”, “About this booklet”, the chapters and the “Closing page”, with “Add a chapter”. For what you pick, three tabs: “Content”, where you type directly, move, duplicate or delete a block or “Turn into” another kind, and “Add” a paragraph, an example, an exercise, a table or a figure; “Ideas”: “Ideas for the selection — each costs 1 coin, taken only if it works.”, for a block (“Simpler”, “Everyday example”, “An exercise”, “Explain it with a figure”, “Turn into a table”…, and “Redraw the figure” on a figure), for a chapter (“Review questions”, “New summary”, “Common mistakes”) and for the whole booklet (“Final self-test”, “Quick revision sheet”, “Glossary”), with “Your wish (optional)”; and “Design”: “Another look” for 3 coins, a new design for the same text, then “Typefaces”, “Colours” (“Use my identity's colours”) and “Paper”. The pages are laid out again after every change, the status reads “Saved”, “Undo” takes it back, then “Done”.

TipEach idea applies at once: “Done — 1 coin used. Undo restores the previous version.”; if it doesn’t work out: “This idea didn't work out, nothing was charged.”. “Another look” works the same way: charged only if the new design arrives, otherwise “No new look this time. Try again.”.

Heads-up“Redraw the figure” is an idea like the others, 1 coin once it works. Editing texts, structure, fonts and colours by hand is always free, and is saved with the booklet in your account.

  4. Step 4 of 4

Save a PDF or attach it to its lesson

On the booklet’s page, “Save as PDF” asks where to put the file, then shows “PDF saved”, and “Show in Finder” opens its folder: print it, send it. If you linked a lesson, “Attach to its lesson” appears: the booklet is printed and uploaded to that lesson (“Attached to the lesson in Dirassa+”), and the button turns “Attached to its lesson”. For another lesson, “Attach to another lesson”, or “Attach to a lesson” if it isn’t linked, then “Attach the booklet to which lesson?”. Every booklet you made stays on the “Booklets” page: “Search by title, lesson or course”, filter with “All” or “Not linked to a lesson”, and open it as you left it; reopening it, editing it by hand, exporting it and attaching it are free.

TipStudents find the booklet in the lesson itself: a PDF is added to the lesson’s content and to its “Lesson files” underneath. You see it in the lesson editor on the web, under “Lesson files”: “Shown under the lesson as one shelf: exercise sets, summaries, solutions…”.

Heads-upIf “The booklet could not be attached. Try again.” appears, nothing was attached: check your connection and press it again. Each attach adds a new file to the lesson, so don’t attach the same booklet to the same lesson twice.

Questions

How much does a booklet cost?

It depends on the “Length”: 2 coins for “Brief”, 3 coins for “Standard” and 4 coins for “Complete”. They are charged at “Create the booklet” and returned in full if you cancel or it fails. In the editor, each idea under “Ideas” costs 1 coin and “Another look” 3 coins, charged only once they work. Editing by hand, reopening the booklet, exporting a PDF and attaching it to a lesson are free.

Can I choose the number of pages?

You choose the “Length”, not the count: “Brief” is 3 chapters, “Standard” 5 and “Complete” 7 (about 10–12 pages, 15–19 and 19–24 in the price table). The exact count depends on what is in your lesson and shows when the booklet opens, such as “16 pages”.

Can I choose the cover?

The cover is designed with the booklet’s whole look, in “Designing the pages”, in your identity. Don’t like the look? “Another look” under “Design” gives the whole booklet, cover and pages, a new design for the same text, for 3 coins. The cover’s texts are edited for free from “Cover” in the “Structure”.

What is sent to write the booklet?

What was said in the lesson (the transcript or the text you pasted), the “Title” and “Subject”, your note for the author if you wrote one, and your identity from “My identity”: name, logo and colours.

Where does the student find the booklet?

Attached from the Studio, it is in the lesson itself: a PDF in its content and in its “Lesson files” underneath. If you only saved a PDF, add it yourself from “Lesson files” in the lesson editor on the web.

What does “Under repair” on the module card mean?

That your version of Dirassa Studio has booklets switched off: the module doesn’t open and nothing is charged. Install the latest version from “Downloads & devices” in the dashboard; a version that opens it shows it as “Beta”.

Does it work on a device that isn’t linked?

No. You see “Link the studio to Dirassa+”: “Booklets are written from your lessons, saved in your account and attached to the lesson they explain.”, then “Connect Dirassa+”.
