Teacher contracts: who gets what from each sale, and from when
Every sale in your school is split the moment it happens, by its teacher's contract: the teacher's share and the school's. The contract says how: a percent of each sale, a salary, a fee the teacher pays, or a mix, with a tier, a link and sessions. And a contract is never edited in place: each change is a new version with a start date, and a month already lived keeps its contract. In this lesson Mourad Belkacem, director of Al Ofok Academy, writes the contracts of his three teachers: Samia Benamor (physics, commission), Karim Haddad (maths, salary) and Nadia Meziani (Arabic, fee + commission), and tries a lower commission for Samia on her past months before saving it.
- About 10 minutes
- 10 steps
Who can do it: “Contracts and commissions” opens with “Money and sales” at “View” (seeing contracts): the director, the deputy and the accountant by default. Writing a new version needs the money settings (“Money and sales” at “Manage”), and nobody writes their own contract. The “Default model” and the link rate are changed in the “School rules”.
In 10 steps
- 1“Contracts and commissions”: the default model, coming changes, one line per teacher with their model and version.
- 2“Commission”: the school takes a percent of every net sale; the rest goes to the teacher.
- 3“Fixed salary” and “Salary + commission”: the school pays, and keeps all or part of the sales.
- 4“Monthly fee” and “Fee + commission”: the teacher pays the school an amount each month.

- 5“Tier”: a lower school percent in a month the teacher’s courses reach a number of paid enrolments.
- 6“One-to-one sessions”: a percent of session sales or an amount per session given.
- 7The teacher's link: on what they bring through it, the school takes only the link rate.
- 8Every change is a new version that starts on a 1st, with at least 14 days' notice.
- 9The simulation: the new contract's effect on the last three closed months, before you save.
- 10What the teacher sees in “My contract and earnings”, and the “Your contract changed” notice.
Before you start
- The school is on, with at least one teacher who accepted their invitation.
- Publish the “School rules”: the default model, the link rate, who bears refunds and discounts.
- Write each teacher's contract before their first sale: what is sold without one stays fully with the school, and such a statement cannot be closed.
- Step 1 of 10
The contracts page: why the numbers split the way they do
In the school menu, under “Money”, open “Contracts and commissions”. Its head sums things up: “3 contracts in force · 1 change scheduled”. Below, two cards. “Default model”: what every new invitation carries, such as “School's commission” 30% “of every net sale”, “Through the teacher's link” 10% and “Notice for any change” 14 days “and it starts on the 1st”; it never touches a running contract. And “Coming changes”: every scheduled version with its teacher and date (“Samia Benamor · 25% commission”, “Starts Sunday, November 1 · version 2”). Then the teachers' contracts: “Teacher” and this month's sales, “Model”, “Since”, “Version”, “Link”, “Tier”, “Scheduled”. Click a name to open their contract; with none, “Write their contract”.

Heads-upA teacher without a contract: what is sold without one stays fully with the school, and their statement cannot be closed. Write it before their first sale.
- Step 2 of 10
“Commission”: a percent of every sale for the school
The most common model: the school takes a percent of every net sale, the rest goes to the teacher. Open Samia's line: at the top “30% commission · since September 2026 · version 1”, then large tiles: “School's commission” 30% and “70% of every sale to the teacher”, “Through their link” 10%. A sale of “Physics: Mechanics” at 4 000 DZD: 2 800 for Samia, 1 200 for the school. Below, the last month in the ledger: “September 2026 in the ledger”, with the split bar: 84 000 to her, 36 000 to the school, of 120 000. The “Their statements” button opens their monthly statements.
On screenCommissionSchool's commissionThrough their linkin the ledgerTheir statementsTipThe percent you type in the editor is the school's (“School's percent of each sale”), with what remains to the teacher right under it: “The teacher takes 70%”.
- Step 3 of 10
“Fixed salary” and “Salary + commission”
In the editor, choose the “Model”. “Fixed salary”: “The school pays the teacher a fixed salary, and all their sales go to the school.” Karim earns 60 000 DZD and sold 45 000 in September: his share is 60 000 whatever he sells, the school's share from him is −15 000, and “Earnings” shows “Salary above their sales”. “Salary + commission”: “The school pays the teacher a fixed salary, plus their own percent of every sale.” With a 30 000 salary and 80% for the school (“On top of the salary, the teacher takes 20% of each sale”): 30 000 + 9 000 = 39 000, and 6 000 of his sales stay with the school. The simulation says it in one sentence: “Teacher's share = 30 000 DZD + 20% of their course sales.”
On screenModelFixed salarySalary + commissionMonthly salarySchool's percent of each saleTipWith “Salary + commission” the table reads “30 000 DZD salary + 20% to them”: here the percent is the teacher's; in the other models it is the school's.
- Step 4 of 10
“Monthly fee” and “Fee + commission”
Here the teacher pays the school. “Monthly fee”: “The teacher pays the school a fixed amount each month and keeps all their net sales”, courses and sessions alike. “Fee + commission”: “The teacher pays the school a fixed amount each month, and the school also takes a percent of every sale.” Nadia: 6 000 DZD fee + 10% commission. She sold 80 000 in September: 90% to her = 72 000, minus the 6 000 fee = her share 66 000, and 14 000 to the school (8 000 commission + 6 000 fee). In a quiet month sales can fall below the fee: a 6 000 fee with 4 000 in sales gives a negative share, shown as “Owes the school 2 000”.
On screenMonthly feeFee + commissionOwes the schoolHeads-upWith “Monthly fee” there are no session terms, link or tier: the teacher already keeps all their sales (“Keeps all their sales” in the link column).
- Step 5 of 10
“Tier”: a lower percent in a big month
With “Commission”, “Fee + commission” or “Salary + commission”, turn on “Tier”: “A lower school percent in a month the teacher's courses reach a number of paid enrolments, on all of that month's sales. A student counts once for each course they buy.” Type “From this many paid enrolments” (in a single month) and “School's percent after that”. Samia: from 50 paid enrolments the school takes 25% (“The teacher takes 75%”). In a month she reaches 52 paid enrolments with 150 000 in sales: her share is 112 500 instead of 105 000, on the whole month's sales, not only after the 50th. The table reads “25% to the school from 50 paid enrolments”, and Samia reads in her statement: “Paid enrolments in your courses reached 52 this month, so your share is now 75%.”
On screenTierFrom this many paid enrolmentsSchool's percent after thatTipA paid enrolment here is a student who paid for one of their courses that month (a purchase or a code): each student counts once per course, so two courses bought count twice.
- Step 6 of 10
“One-to-one sessions”: paying the teacher for their sessions
Sessions students book with the teacher are added to their share. In the editor turn on “One-to-one sessions”, then “How sessions are paid”: “Percent” (“Teacher's percent of session sales”) or “Per session” (“To the teacher per session given”). Karim, with his 60 000 salary and 1 500 DZD per session, gave 12 in October: 60 000 + 18 000 = 78 000. The “Per session” model alone pays the teacher for their sessions only, with no share of course sales.
On screenOne-to-one sessionsHow sessions are paidPercentPer sessionTipA session “given” is a booking marked done in the agenda that month; cancelled ones don't count.
- Step 7 of 10
The teacher's link: less for the school on what they bring
Each teacher creates “Your personal link” (“Create your link”) on the school's site (/t/…) to share with their students. The first link a student clicks is kept for 30 days: if they buy meanwhile, the sale is credited to that link's teacher, and the school takes only the link rate on it, set in the rules (“Commission on the teacher's link sales”). Ishak buys “Physics: Mechanics” at 4 000 through Samia's link: an ordinary sale gives her 2 800 and the school 1 200; through her link, 3 600, and only 400 to the school. In the editor the “Link rate” is locked: it is a school rule, not a contract term.
On screenYour personal linkCreate your linkCopy your linkLink rateThrough their linkTipThe link only changes the arithmetic in models with a commission. With “Fixed salary” the table says “Sales go to the school”; with “Monthly fee”, “Keeps all their sales”.
Heads-upThe link rate applies from the date it was published in the rules: what was sold through the link before keeps the contract's normal commission.
- Step 8 of 10
A new version and its start date
A contract is never edited in place: “this is a new version with a start date. Closed statements do not change, and the current contract holds until that day.” Under “Starts on”, two choices, always a 1st. For a first contract: “This month: covers all its sales from the 1st” or “From next month”. To change a contract: the first 1st at least 14 days away. On October 9 that is Sunday, November 1 (“Earliest allowed… Last day to send: October 18”) or Tuesday, December 1. Write a “Note to the teacher (optional)”, then “Save version 2”. In “Versions” it reads “Scheduled” until its day, then “In force”. Each sale follows the contract of its day, Algiers time: a sale on October 31 at 23:50 at 30%, one on November 1 at 00:30 at 25%.
On screenStarts onNote to the teacher (optional)Save versionVersionsScheduledIn forceTipEvery version keeps who wrote it and when: “Written by Mourad Belkacem on October 9, 2026”.
Heads-upA date less than 14 days away is refused: “A money change needs at least 14 days' notice and starts on the 1st of a month.” And a date a scheduled version already holds can't be picked twice.
- Step 9 of 10
The simulation: try the contract on past months
Beside the editor, the “Applied to July – September” panel, marked “Simulation · not saved”: the teacher's last three closed months, recomputed with every number you change. Mourad lowers Samia's commission from 30% to 25% (“Was 30%”). Her sales: 90 000, 110 000 and 120 000 = 320 000. Her share now: 224 000; after: 240 000. He reads: “School” −16 000, “−16.7% of its share (96 000)”, and Samia +16 000, “about 5 333 DZD a month”; then the month-by-month table (“Their share now”, “After”, “Difference”) and the effect on the school each month. Nothing is saved before the orange button.
On screenApplied toSimulation · not savedSchoolTheir share nowAfterDifferenceTipUnder the numbers, the contract as one sentence, exactly as it will be computed: “Teacher's share = 75% of their course sales. On what comes through their link, the school takes only 10%.”
Heads-upThe simulation starts from the ledger's figures after refunds. If the ledger differs from “Their share now”, an earlier version or the link rate's start date explains it, and the panel says so.
- Step 10 of 10
What the teacher sees, and who sees what
When you save, the teacher gets the “Your contract changed” notice with your note. It opens “My contract and earnings”: the “My contract” card with its title (“30% commission”) and its sentences: “The school keeps 30% of each sale, you get 70%.”, an example on one of their courses (“a sale of “Physics: Mechanics” at 4 000 DZD brings you 2 800 DZD”), then “From November 1: 25% commission”, “Your link” (“The school takes only 10% of what comes through it”), “Payment”, and the “Contract history” with every version. A teacher who can see contracts and opens their own in “Contracts and commissions” only reads it: “This is your contract: you can read it here; it is edited by whoever holds the school's money settings.”
On screenYour contract changedMy contract and earningsMy contractYour linkPaymentContract historyTipPut the reason for the change in the note (“A reward for the first term's results”): it travels with the notice and stays with the version.

Questions
I changed the commission today: why don't this month's figures move?
Because the change is a new version that starts on a 1st at least 14 days away. Until then the current contract holds, and past months keep their contract.
Does a new contract recompute closed statements?
No. Closed statements don't change, and each sale follows the contract of its day, Algiers time.
A teacher sold before I wrote their contract: where did the money go?
What is sold without a contract stays fully with the school, and their statement can't be closed. A first contract can start on the 1st of this month and cover all their sales since.
Why does “Owes the school” show next to a teacher?
With “Monthly fee” or “Fee + commission”, when their share of sales is below the fee, the share turns negative: that is what they owe the school that month.
Can I edit my own contract?
No. Nobody writes their own contract, even with the money settings; someone else who holds the permission does.
What is the difference between the contract's percent and the link rate?
The contract's percent is set per teacher. The link rate is one rule for the whole school, and replaces the commission only on what the teacher brings through their link.
