# Explain on the digital whiteboard in Dirassa Studio and record your lesson

> The digital whiteboard is a board you write on by hand as you would in class, with pages to flip through and tools made for explaining: a pen whose ink fades, a laser, a curtain that reveals little by little. You prepare your boards yourself or from your lesson script, then record: the video shows the board alone, with your voice and camera, ready to edit. It works for a maths teacher as well as a marketing coach, a programming trainer or a photographer.

- Time: About 5 minutes to prepare, then the length of your lesson
- Who can do it: Drawing and recording cost nothing. “Boards from my script” needs Dirassa Studio linked to your school and coins.

## In short
1. Open “Digital whiteboard” under “Create”, pick the “Board surface” and arrange the “Pages”.
2. Write and draw with the dock; add an equation, a science drawing or PDF pages from “Add to the board”.
3. Paste your script into “Build my boards”: 1 coin per 10 boards, reviewed, then “Put them on the board”.
4. Press “Record”: only the board is filmed, with your voice and camera, then the recording opens in the “Video editor”.

## Before you start
- Dirassa Studio installed on your computer; download it from “Downloads & devices” in the dashboard (/dashboard/studio/downloads).
- A stylus or drawing tablet if you have one, for nicer handwriting; a mouse is enough for text, shapes and layouts.
- Your lesson script if you want your boards built from it (200 characters at least), and coins in “Balance”.
- A microphone, and a camera if you want to appear in the lesson.

## The steps

### 1. Open the board and prepare your pages
In Dirassa Studio’s sidebar, under “Create”, press “Digital whiteboard” (“Explanation by handwriting and drawing”). It opens in its own window: the board in the middle, the “Pages” at its side, a thin bar on top. “Board surface” sets the background: “Chalkboard”, “Black”, “White”, “Brand”, “Notebook”, “Grid”, “Dots”, “Lines”, “Math grid”, “Coordinates” or “Custom color”. Add a page with “New page”, copy it with “Duplicate”, name it with a double-click (“Double-click to rename”) or “Rename”, or “Delete page”. You can write over your slides too: “Add to the board”, then “PDF pages” (“Write over your slides”). Everything you draw is saved on its own on this computer, so you find it as you left it.
On screen: «Create»، «Digital whiteboard»، «Pages»، «Board surface»، «New page»، «Duplicate»، «Rename»، «Delete page»، «Add to the board»، «PDF pages»
Tip: PowerPoint or Keynote slides? “For PowerPoint or Keynote, export to PDF first — the result is identical.” Then open them as pages to write on.
Heads-up: The board is saved on this computer only: it isn’t uploaded to Dirassa Plus or copied to another computer. What reaches your students is the video you record on it.

### 2. Write, draw, explain
The tools sit in a dock under the board: the colours (“Pick a chalk”) and “Stroke size”, then “Pen” and its “Pen settings”: “Pencil”, “Marker”, “Calligraphy”, “Opacity”, “Steady hand” and “Smart shapes” (“A rough circle becomes perfect”). Then “Highlighter” and “Eraser”, then the two explaining tools: the “Fading pen”, whose ink disappears after a moment, and the “Laser”; then “Text” and “Arrow between cards”, “Straight line”, “Compass” and “Select & move”, “Undo” and “Redo”. From “Add to the board”: “Equation” written in LaTeX, “Science drawing” (“Axes, circuits, beakers”), “Table”, “Image” and “A mark”. On top, “Geometry tools”: “Ruler”, “Set square”, “Protractor”, and “Motion” (“Animate what appears”) so things appear on the board with movement.
On screen: «Pick a chalk»، «Stroke size»، «Pen»، «Pen settings»، «Smart shapes»، «Highlighter»، «Eraser»، «Fading pen»، «Laser»، «Text»، «Straight line»، «Compass»، «Select & move»، «Equation»، «Science drawing»، «Geometry tools»، «Motion»
Tip: In front of your class or camera, press “Explain” (“The board alone — only what you explain with”): the menus go away and one bar stays, with the pen, the “Fading pen”, the laser and the eraser, the “Curtain” (“Drag to reveal”), the “Spotlight”, the “Timer” and “Previous page” / “Next page”. “Exit focus mode” brings everything back.

### 3. Boards from your lesson script
From “Add to the board”, pick “Boards from my script” (“Paste the lesson, say how many — it builds them”) and “Build my boards” opens. Paste the whole script (“Paste your lesson script here — the whole thing.”): 200 characters at least, and anything past 60,000 characters isn’t read. Choose “How many boards”, 3 to 40 (10 to start with); the price shows below: “Costs N coins”, that is 1 coin per 10 boards. Press “Build the boards” (“Reading your lesson…”). For each board it picks one of the board’s layouts and writes a short title and a few lines of a few words, in your script’s language and dialect, leaving the explaining to your voice; the board then builds them the way it builds what you write by hand. Review them in “N boards ready — change a layout, or drop what you don't want.”: change the layout from the list (Journey, Stages, Cycle, Stairs, Compare, List, Outline, Decision, Table, Tree, Statement, Numbers, Cards), or “Drop this board”, then “Put them on the board”: one page per board, after the page you’re on.
On screen: «Boards from my script»، «Build my boards»، «How many boards»، «Costs N coins»، «Build the boards»، «Reading your lesson…»، «Drop this board»، «Put them on the board»، «Start over»، «A ready-made layout»، «Layouts»
Tip: No coins needed: “A ready-made layout” opens “Layouts”; pick one and paste your lines (“One line per card — paste from your script”), then “Build on this page” or “Build the whole lesson — a page per part”. Pasting multi-line text onto the board opens one of the two by itself: “Build my boards” from 200 characters, “Layouts” below that.
Heads-up: “Start over” throws away the boards you received, and the next request is charged again. A title or line you don’t like is fixed on the board itself, for free, once placed. If building fails or brings back too few usable boards, the price is refunded in full; “Your balance is not enough.” charges nothing.

### 4. Record your lesson on the board
Press “Record” in the top bar, or switch to “Explain” first: its record bar shows what will go into the video, “Microphone”, “Camera” and “System audio”, each with its device name or “Off”; the camera uses your screen recorder’s settings. Only the board is filmed: once recording starts, the tools move under it, so you see them and the video doesn’t. While recording: the timer, “Mark this moment” whenever you slip or want to come back to a spot, “Pause” / “Resume”, and “Finish” (or the Esc key). Afterwards, the “Lesson recorded” card lists the “Marks” and their minutes, and the recording usually opens in the “Video editor”, with board, camera and sound as separate tracks: cut what you marked, add captions and animated explainers, then publish it to your lesson.
On screen: «Record»، «Explain»، «Microphone»، «Camera»، «System audio»، «Off»، «Mark this moment»، «Pause»، «Resume»، «Finish»، «Lesson recorded»، «Marks»، «Video editor»
Tip: Marks show in that card only and don’t carry into the editor: note their minutes before you close it, then cut those spots in the “Video editor”.
Heads-up: The page doesn’t change during a recording: the board stays on the page you started from. Record each page on its own, or gather the explanation on one page; if its items have reveal steps (“Reveal step by step”), the arrow keys reveal them during the recording too.

## After recording
- Edit the video: Cut the marked spots, add captions and zoom in the “Video editor”.
- Add an animated explainer: An animated scene over a line you said, with “Animated explainers”.
- Publish it to a lesson: Send the edited video to its lesson on Dirassa Plus.
- Watch your balance: What boards and the rest cost, in “Balance” and on the web under “Coins”.

## Questions

**How much does “Boards from my script” cost?**
1 coin per 10 boards, rounded up: 3 to 10 boards, 1 coin; 12 boards, 2; 40 boards, 4. The price shows before you press. Editing the boards once placed is free, so are “Layouts”, and drawing or recording costs nothing.

**What exactly does it make from my script?**
For each board: one of the board’s layouts (stages, comparison, cycle…), a short title and a few lines of a few words, readable from the back of the room, in the script’s language and dialect. It doesn’t copy the script or draw pictures: the board builds cards and arrows from those lines, and you explain.

**Where is my board saved?**
On this computer, only, as you draw. It isn’t uploaded to Dirassa Plus and doesn’t appear on another computer; what reaches your students is the video you record on it.

**Do students see my tools and menus in the video?**
No. Only the board’s rectangle is filmed; the tools and the record bar move under it as soon as recording starts, so you see them and the video doesn’t.

**Can I write over my slides?**
Yes: “Add to the board”, then “PDF pages” opens your file as pages to write on. For PowerPoint or Keynote, export to PDF first.

**I teach maths or chemistry — what do I get?**
“Equation” in LaTeX, drawn at once; “Science drawing” with Math, Physics, Chemistry and Computer science; the “Geometry tools” (ruler, set square, protractor); “Compass” and “Straight line”; and the “Math grid” and “Coordinates” surfaces.

**I slipped mid-recording — do I start over?**
No. Press “Mark this moment” and carry on, then cut that spot in the “Video editor”. “Pause” stops the recording while you catch your breath or answer a question, then “Resume”.

**Can I change pages during a recording?**
Not today: the board stays on the page you started from until you finish. Record each page on its own, or gather your explanation on one page with reveal steps you move through with the arrow keys.
