# Record a lesson in Dirassa Studio

> Whether you are explaining an equation, showing a photo retouch in your editing app or training a sales team on a new tool: Dirassa Studio records your screen, camera and voice each on its own track, on your computer and at the highest quality, then opens the editor so you can clean the take before anyone sees it. To avoid stumbling, write your script first and read it from a teleprompter that never shows in the recording.

- Time: About 5 minutes to set up
- Who can do it: Requires Dirassa Studio installed on your computer. Recording happens on the device with no connection; linking a script to a lesson and the writing assistant need a computer linked to your school.

## In short
1. Press “Start recording” in Dirassa Studio; the selected mode is “Studio”, the one for lessons.
2. Choose what is captured: “Screen”, “Window”, “Area” or “Camera only”.
3. Set “Camera”, “Microphone” and “Record System Audio”.
4. Write your script in “Lesson scripts” and read it from the “Teleprompter”, hidden from the recording.
5. Record: “Mark a mistake” when you stumble, pause or restart, then “Stop recording” and the editor opens.

## Before you start
- Dirassa Studio installed on your computer; download it from “Downloads & devices” in the dashboard (/dashboard/studio/downloads).
- Your computer’s permissions: screen recording, camera and microphone. If one is missing, an “Allow” badge shows on that row.
- A microphone close to you, even a headset one: clear sound matters more to a lesson than a sharp picture.
- If you read from a text: the script ready in “Lesson scripts”, or copied to paste into the teleprompter.

## The steps

### 1. Open the recorder and pick the mode
On Dirassa Studio’s home page press “Start recording”, or open “Screen recorder” in the “Create” group of the sidebar. The small recording panel opens; at its top are the two mode buttons, “Studio mode” and “Screenshot mode”, with an “i” button next to them that opens “Recording modes” and explains each. “Studio” is selected by default and is the mode for lessons: “Record locally in the highest quality for editing later.” Screen, camera and microphone each stay on their own track, and the editor opens by itself when you stop. “Screenshot” is for still images you annotate, such as an app’s interface whose buttons you explain, or an error in some code.
On screen: «Start recording»، «Screen recorder»، «Create»، «Studio mode»، «Screenshot mode»، «Recording modes»، «Studio»، «Screenshot»، «Back»
Tip: The arrow next to “Start recording” saves a step: “Full screen”, “A window” or “An area” straight away, or “Screenshot”.

### 2. Choose what is captured
The panel has four buttons: “Screen”, “Window”, “Area” and “Camera only”. Widen the panel with “Expand” to see the “Capture” heading and a line under each button (“Everything on screen”, “One app”…). The small arrow next to “Screen” and “Window” lists your screens or open windows. Press a button: your screen dims and the start bar appears on it. With “Window”, hover over the app you want and click to lock it; “Adjust recording area” turns it into an area whose edges you move. With “Area”, draw a rectangle: its size shows at the top (“1280 × 720”), with “Free”, 16:9, 4:3, 1:1 and “Fill display”; the smallest area is 150 × 150. Then press the big “Start Recording” button, with the mode’s name, “Studio mode”, beneath it. Esc cancels the choice.
On screen: «Capture»، «Screen»، «Window»، «Area»، «Camera only»، «Adjust recording area»، «Draw an area»، «Free»، «Fill display»، «Start Recording»، «Recording Countdown»
Tip: A 3-second countdown comes before recording. The gear next to the big button opens “Recording Countdown”: “Off”, “3 seconds”, “5 seconds” or “10 seconds”.
Heads-up: For a lesson in a single app (photo editor, spreadsheet, code editor), pick “Window” or “Area”: your notifications and other windows stay out of the recording.

### 3. Camera, microphone and computer sound
Below the capture buttons are three rows. “Camera”: pick your camera or “No Camera”; your picture appears in a bubble on screen, recorded on its own track, with buttons for size, shape (circle, square, rectangle), mirroring and background blur. The row’s “Camera settings” button opens its settings, and “Show camera preview” brings the bubble back if you hid it. “Microphone”: pick the microphone; a small bar moving with your voice confirms it is picking up. “Record System Audio”: records what comes out of your computer, such as the sound of a video you show or a track whose mix you explain; the badge next to it reads “On” or “Off”. Start without a microphone and Dirassa Studio asks first, “No microphone detected”: “Go back” or “Record without microphone”.
On screen: «Camera»، «No Camera»، «Camera settings»، «Show camera preview»، «Microphone»، «No Microphone»، «Record System Audio»، «No System Audio»، «On»، «Off»، «No microphone detected»، «Record without microphone»
Tip: Camera and microphone also sit in the on-screen start bar, so you can change them at the last moment without going back to the panel.
Heads-up: “Camera only” turns “Record System Audio” off by itself. System audio needs macOS 13 or later: “System audio capture requires macOS 13.0 or later”.

### 4. Write your script and read it from the teleprompter
Under “Teach”, open “Lesson scripts” and press “New script”. Type the title in “What is this lesson called?”, then the text block by block (“Write, or press / to add a block”). “Spoken” blocks (heading, paragraph, hook, example, story, question, call to action) are read; “Direction” blocks (visual, screen, B-roll, motion, pause) are notes for you and are not read. At the bottom are the estimated length and the word count, worked out at 130 words a minute until a captioned lesson measures your own pace. Press “Open in teleprompter”: only the spoken blocks go to the “Teleprompter”, a floating window that “is hidden from Dirassa Studio recordings”. It has “Play”, a “Scroll speed” from 60 to 350 words a minute (150 to begin with), “Window opacity”, “Smaller text” and “Larger text”, and under “Settings”, “Cue markers” and “Mirror text”.
On screen: «Teach»، «Lesson scripts»، «New script»، «Spoken»، «Direction»، «Open in teleprompter»، «Teleprompter»، «Play»، «Scroll speed»، «Window opacity»، «Larger text»، «Cue markers»، «Mirror text»، «Rewrite with help»
Tip: Not happy with a paragraph? “Rewrite with help” on the block: “Improve”, “Shorten”, “Expand”, “Simplify” or “In my voice”, then “Replace” or “Keep mine”. Free, no coins, within a daily limit shown in the menu (“N of M today”).
Heads-up: The assistant rewrites one block at a time and does not write the script for you; “In my voice” needs a script or two you wrote before. The teleprompter also opens from its icon at the top of the recording panel, to paste any text into it.

### 5. Record: mistake marks, pause, stop
After the countdown, the small recording bar appears. At its end is the red timer, and pressing it is “Stop recording”. Next to it is the flag, “Mark a mistake”: fluffed a sentence? Press it and say the sentence again without stopping; the flag flashes and counts your marks, and the editor finds them later. “Pause recording” pauses it and “Resume recording” carries on, “Restart recording” throws the take away and starts over, “Delete recording” cancels it, and “Recording settings” switches microphone or camera mid-recording. When you stop, the editor opens on the take by itself.
On screen: «Stop recording»، «Mark a mistake»، «Pause recording»، «Resume recording»، «Restart recording»، «Delete recording»، «Recording settings»، «Shortcuts»، «Set hotkeys…»
Tip: No shortcut is set out of the box. Under “Settings” then “Shortcuts”, use “Set hotkeys…” for, say, “Mark a mistake”, “Pause/resume recording” and “Stop recording”; they work from any app.
Heads-up: “Restart recording” throws the current take away and “Delete recording” deletes it; both ask you to confirm (“Confirm Restart” or “Confirm Delete”). For a small slip, “Mark a mistake” is enough, and you keep going.

## After recording
- Clean the take: Pauses, filler words and the mistakes you marked, in the editor’s “Clean up”.
- Add captions: The lesson’s words on the video, on your computer or in the cloud.
- Put it in a lesson: From the exported file to a lesson in your course on Dirassa Plus.
- Generate its questions: Questions anchored to the minutes of your explanation.

## Questions

**Where is the recording kept?**
On your computer. “Studio” mode records locally at the highest quality, each source on its own track, and opens the editor when you stop. You find your takes again from the “Recordings” icon at the top of the panel, or in Dirassa Studio’s “Media library”.

**Where are instant mode and the share link?**
Dirassa Studio does not offer them for recording: a lesson is reviewed, cleaned and placed in its course before anyone sees it. There are two modes: “Studio” and “Screenshot”.

**Does the teleprompter text show in the video?**
No. The teleprompter “is hidden from Dirassa Studio recordings”, even in a full-screen capture. The exception is Linux: “This window may appear in recordings on Linux”.

**I stumbled halfway through — do I start again?**
No need. Press “Mark a mistake” and say the sentence again. In the editor, “Clean up” sees your marks, and with “What it is sure of” it removes what you marked without asking.

**Is the script writing assistant paid?**
No, it is free with no coins, within a daily limit that follows your Studio plan: from 40 rewrites a day on the first plan to 200 on the school plan. The counter is in the menu itself and resets every day.

**Does Dirassa Studio write the whole script?**
No. You write it; the assistant rewrites one block at a time: improves it, shortens it, expands it with an example, simplifies it, or writes it in your voice learned from your earlier scripts.

**Can I record just the camera?**
Yes, “Camera only” records you with camera and microphone, without the screen: for a course introduction or a message to your students. System audio is switched off with it.

**How do I change the countdown?**
From the gear next to the big button in the start bar, the “Recording Countdown” menu: “Off”, “3 seconds”, “5 seconds” or “10 seconds”. It starts at 3 seconds.
