# Build and publish your lesson’s knowledge map

> The knowledge map draws your lesson’s concepts as a tree: the topic at the root, the main threads beneath it, the details under each thread, and every concept knows the second you explained it at. Dirassa Studio builds it from your recording’s transcript for 2 coins; you edit it for free, without limit; then you publish it to the lesson, where students find it under the video: tap a concept, read its explanation, then jump to its moment.

- Time: About 5 minutes
- Who can do it: Requires a computer linked to your school in Dirassa Studio; publishing to a lesson needs permission to edit lessons in your role.

## In short
1. Open “Knowledge map” under “Teach” and click a recording in “Ready to map”: its map is built for 2 coins.
2. Click a concept to edit its name, explanation and marks, drag it to another branch or add one — free, and saved on its own.
3. “Preview as student”, then “Publish to Dirassa+” and pick the lesson that carries this recording’s video.
4. Students see the “Lesson map” under the video: tap a concept to read it, then “Watch at …” jumps to its second.

## Before you start
- Dirassa Studio installed and linked to your school, with at least 2 coins in “Balance” per map.
- The recording transcribed in the video editor: the map is built from the timed transcript; without one it stays under “Needs a transcript first”.
- The lesson that will take the map exists in your course on Dirassa Plus, ideally carrying this same recording’s video.
- Students see the map in a published lesson; a draft lesson doesn’t open for them yet.

## The steps

### 1. Build the map from a recording
In the sidebar, under “Teach”, open “Knowledge map”. The “See the whole lesson in one look” page sorts your recordings into three lists: “Your maps” for those that already have one (“Saved map · opens free”), “Ready to map” for every transcribed recording, with its length and lines (“18 min · 142 timed lines”), and “Needs a transcript first” for the rest (“Transcribe this lesson in the editor, then it can be mapped.”). Click a recording under “Ready to map” and its map is built right away: the list dims for a moment, then the map appears with its concepts and their seconds, up to 44 concepts, each with its name and a two-sentence explanation drawn from what you said at that point. The price is at the foot of the page: “2 coins per lesson.”
On screen: «Teach»، «Knowledge map»، «See the whole lesson in one look»، «Your maps»، «Saved map · opens free»، «Ready to map»، «Needs a transcript first»، «Transcribe this lesson in the editor, then it can be mapped.»، «Your balance is not enough.»
Tip: The map follows the lesson’s language: a lesson in darija gets its names and explanations in plain Modern Standard Arabic, a French lesson gets them in French.
Heads-up: Clicking a recording under “Ready to map” builds the map and spends 2 coins at once, with no confirmation window; anything under “Your maps” opens free. “Your balance is not enough.” charges nothing, and if the build fails (“The service did not answer, and nothing was charged.”) the price comes back.

### 2. Edit the concepts and check their seconds
Above the map sits “11 concepts”, and in a corner a floating player of your recording: play it and the concepts light up as the explanation reaches them. Click a concept and the “Concept” panel opens: “Name”, “Explanation” (“students read this”), and beneath it “What you said at 4:12”, the line of your transcript at that second, to compare against. Then “Marks”: “Must memorise” and “Exam-likely”, “Common mistake” for the slip students make, and “Watch the explanation · 4:12” to check the second lands right. Double-click a concept to rename it in place, drag it onto another to make it a branch, “Add a branch” (or + on the node) for a new concept, and the bin removes it: “Remove concept — its children move up to its parent”. Every edit is free and saves on its own with the recording, on your computer.
On screen: «Concept»، «Name»، «Explanation»، «students read this»، «What you said at 4:12»، «Marks»، «Must memorise»، «Exam-likely»، «Common mistake»، «Watch the explanation · 4:12»، «Add a branch»، «Everything»، «Overview»، «Revision»، «Exam mode»، «Display»
Tip: The views above the map filter without deleting: “Overview” shows the root and its threads, “Revision” what carries “Must memorise”, “Exam mode” what carries “Exam-likely”. “Display” sets spacing, text size and root side for your own reading.
Heads-up: A concept’s second comes from the transcript and can’t be changed by hand; a branch you add takes its parent’s second. If a second lands in the wrong place, fix the transcript in the editor, then “Regenerate” (2 coins): the map is rebuilt, and the explanations, marks and branches you edited by hand are replaced.

### 3. Preview as a student, then publish to the lesson
Press “Preview as student” (it turns to “Student view”) to see the map as it will arrive, with the “What students get” settings in “Display”: “Density”, “Root side” and “Show memorise / exam marks”; clicking a concept opens its card with no editing tools. Then “Publish to Dirassa+”: a window with “Search your courses”, lessons under “Course · Section” headings, and “already recorded” on those with a video. Pick the lesson: the button turns to “Publishing…”, then “Live in …” appears with the lesson’s name, and the button becomes “Update published map” to publish again after any edit. Publishing is free, and a lesson has one map: the new one replaces the old.
On screen: «Preview as student»، «Student view»، «What students get»، «Density»، «Root side»، «Show memorise / exam marks»، «Publish to Dirassa+»، «Search your courses»، «already recorded»، «Publishing…»، «Live in …»، «Update published map»
Tip: Pick the lesson that carries this recording’s video: the concepts’ seconds point into it, and a student’s “Watch at …” jumps in the lesson’s video. After publishing, try “Watch at …” on two or three concepts in the published lesson.
Heads-up: To withdraw the map from the lesson, press “Live in …” (“Withdraw the map from this lesson”). That marker shows only while the map stays open since you published it; leave and come back and the button is “Publish to Dirassa+” again, and publishing to the same lesson replaces its map rather than adding a second. “This device is not linked to Dirassa+, or has lost its permission to edit lessons.” means: link the device again.

### 4. What the student sees
In the lesson, under the video and your short description, a “Lesson map” section with its concept count. On a computer the student sees the same tree, pans it, zooms (“Zoom in”, “Zoom out”) and opens it full screen (“Open the map”). Tapping a concept shows its name beneath, a “Memorise” or “In the exam” mark if you show them, its explanation and your warning if you wrote one, then a “Watch at 4:12” button that jumps the video to that second. On a phone it arrives as an indented list read with a thumb: the first eight concepts, then “Show N more”, and “Open the map” for the whole drawing.
On screen: «Lesson map»، «Zoom in»، «Zoom out»، «Open the map»، «Memorise»، «In the exam»، «Watch at 4:12»، «Show N more»، «Every concept knows the second it was explained at»
Tip: The map reaches students as soon as you publish it, with no “Update published version” of the lesson: it has its own place, apart from the lesson’s draft.
Heads-up: For students the map doesn’t light up as the video plays, the way it does in the Studio: it is an index they jump from to the explanation. Memorise and exam marks disappear for them if “Show memorise / exam marks” was off when you published.

## After publishing the map
- Write its questions: In “Quizzes”, questions are built from your map: the concepts you reviewed yourself.
- A paper on the web: Noqta in the paper editor reads the published map’s concepts and their seconds.
- Keep it current: Edit, then “Update published map”: students get the new map in place of the old.
- The same video: Put this recording’s video in the lesson, so the seconds land in the right place.

## Questions

**How much does a map cost?**
2 coins per lesson to build it, and 2 coins for each “Regenerate”. Editing, previewing, publishing and republishing afterwards are free, and a saved map opens from “Your maps” at no cost.

**What if the build fails?**
The price is reserved first and returned on failure, with “The service did not answer, and nothing was charged.”. “Your balance is not enough.” charges nothing: top up, then click the recording again.

**Can I change a concept’s second?**
Not by hand: the second comes from the timed transcript, and a new branch takes its parent’s. Fix the transcript in the editor, then “Regenerate” for 2 coins — knowing that explanations, marks and branches you edited by hand are replaced.

**Where is my map saved?**
With the recording itself, on your computer; every edit saves on its own, with no button. If that fails, the Studio says so: “The map could not be saved to this lesson's folder. Your latest edits are on screen but not on disk.” Students only see what you published, not what you are trying out.

**My recording is transcribed but stays under “Needs a transcript first” — why?**
The map needs a transcript of at least 400 characters; a shorter one stays there. Finish transcribing in the editor, then come back to the list.

**Do students see it on their phone?**
Yes, as an indented list of concepts and their seconds: the first eight, then “Show N more”, and “Open the map” opens the drawing full screen.

**Can I hide exam marks from students?**
Yes: turn off “Show memorise / exam marks” under “What students get”, then “Update published map”. The marks stay in your map in the Studio.

**What is the difference between “Display” and “What students get”?**
The first settings are for your own reading and never leave your computer: spacing, text size, root side, lighting up with the video, colour. The second go into the published map: density, root side and marks, and “Applies on the next publish”.
