# Live settings: what every new live inherits

> Every new live starts with ready values that come from here: reminders, backstage and waiting-room times, when it ends by itself, chat, question and stage rules, recording and replay, and quality. You set them once for the academy and change them for any live under “More”. Plus your personal choice: where your lives happen. Salim Bouzid sets “Al-Ofok Academy”’s values once, and Karim Zerrouki keeps the Zoom link he teaches on. Today, while the Dirassa+ room isn’t open, lives run on a Google Meet or Zoom link: they take from here the reminders, when starting opens for you and when students see the join button, and questions ahead; what concerns the room (the automatic end, chat and stage, recording and quality) works once it opens.

- Time: About 5 minutes, once
- Who can do it: The academy’s values for whoever has “All teachers’ live classes” or manages settings or the team; others see them read-only. “Where the live happens” is each teacher’s own.

## In short
1. Six parts, and an “Unsaved changes” bar with save and undo; values apply to new lives.
2. “Defaults”: reminders, backstage 30 minutes before, the waiting room 15 minutes before.
3. “When a live ends by itself”: a warning 5 minutes before, a hard stop 15 minutes after, a 5-minute grace if you leave.
4. “Participation and moderation”: chat, slow mode, links and words, questions, reactions, and the stage up to 4.
5. “Recording and replay” and “Data and quality”: record every live, replay window, phone quality, stepping down, most watching at once.
6. “Where the live happens”: your permanent Google Meet or Zoom link, your own choice; the Dirassa+ room is “Soon”.

## Before you start
- Permission to edit the academy’s values; otherwise you read them, and “Where the live happens” stays yours.
- Remember: what you change here applies to new lives, not those already scheduled.

## The steps

### 1. Six parts, one save
Live settings (the values of every new live, changeable per live under “More”) has: “Defaults”, “Participation and moderation”, “Recording and replay”, “Data and quality”, “Where the live happens”, and “School” in schools (a link to “Open school lives”). Any change shows “Unsaved changes” at the bottom (new lives only) with Save and Undo: “Settings saved”. Without permission over the academy’s values, you read that the director sets them, as your lives inherit them.
On screen: «Live settings»، «Defaults»، «Participation and moderation»، «Recording and replay»، «Data and quality»، «Where the live happens»، «School»، «Open school lives»، «Unsaved changes»، «Save»، «Undo»، «Settings saved»

### 2. “Defaults”: reminders and opening times
The What every live inherits part: Reminders (on the phone, and by email for site registrants), six switches all on: “A day before”, “An hour before”, “10 minutes before”, “When it starts”, “When the replay is ready”, “By email too”. Backstage opens before the start: 10, 15, 30 (default), 45 or 60 minutes (the teacher checks picture and slides while students wait). The waiting room opens before the start: “At the start”, 5, 10, 15 (default) or 30 minutes (students write questions and see the countdown); a Meet or Zoom live’s join button opens at the same time.
On screen: «What every live inherits»، «Reminders»، «A day before»، «An hour before»، «10 minutes before»، «When it starts»، «When the replay is ready»، «By email too»، «Backstage opens before the start»، «The waiting room opens before the start»، «At the start»
Tip: Like plenty of time to set up slides and guests? Set backstage to 45 minutes; students aren’t affected, their room has its own time.

### 3. “When a live ends by itself”
The When a live ends by itself part (no live forgets itself open until midnight) draws an example on a timeline (warning 21:25, planned end 21:30, hard stop 21:45). Warning the teacher (shown in the studio before the planned end): “No warning”, 5 or 10 minutes before. After the planned end (a short grace to finish the answer, then it closes): “Closes on time” or a 10, 15, 30 or 60-minute grace. If the teacher leaves and doesn't come back (students read that the teacher will be back, then it closes and the recording is kept): after 2, 5, 10 or 15 minutes. In the studio, “Extend 15 minutes” moves the planned end itself, and the grace moves with it.
On screen: «When a live ends by itself»، «Warning the teacher»، «No warning»، «After the planned end»، «Closes on time»، «If the teacher leaves and doesn't come back»
Tip: A trainer whose workshops overflow with questions? A 30-minute grace after the end lets her answer without extending each time.

### 4. “Participation and moderation”: chat, questions, stage
Chat: “Chat on” (students write, everyone reads), “Visitors can write” (site registrants without accounts), “Slow mode” (one message per student per interval: “No slow mode”, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds), “Students' links” (“Approved by the moderator” by default, “Blocked” or “Allowed”; the team can always send links) and “Blocked words”, separated by commas. Questions and reactions: “Questions on”, “Questions ahead” (written from the live’s page, seen backstage), “Anonymous” (students ask without their name showing to others), “Reactions”, “Show the viewer count”. Stage: “Stage on”, “Raise hand” (the student joins the queue, the teacher or moderator invites them) and “Most people on stage” from 0 to 4.
On screen: «Chat on»، «Visitors can write»، «Slow mode»، «No slow mode»، «Students' links»، «Approved by the moderator»، «Blocked words»، «Questions on»، «Questions ahead»، «Anonymous»، «Reactions»، «Show the viewer count»، «Stage on»، «Raise hand»، «Most people on stage»
Tip: Free lives with big audiences? A 10-second slow mode and “Blocked” links keep the chat free of ads.

### 5. “Recording and replay” and “Data and quality”
Recording and replay (recorded from the teacher’s browser and uploaded to your library by itself): “Record every live” (it reaches “Recordings” minutes after the end), “Replay available to students” (“Always”, “7 days”, “30 days”, “Students only”, “No replay”) and “Chapters” (made by themselves from slides, polls and markers, renamed in “Recordings”). Data and quality (students see what they use, and choose): “Quality on phones” — “Normal” (about 540 MB an hour), “Saver” (about 200 MB, the default), “Audio only” (about 14 MB), with the estimate for a 90-minute class; “Step down by itself on a weak network” (down to “Audio only” if needed; going back is offered, never forced); and “Most people watching at once” (empty for your plan’s limit).
On screen: «Record every live»، «Replay available to students»، «Always»، «7 days»، «30 days»، «Students only»، «No replay»، «Chapters»، «Quality on phones»، «Normal»، «Saver»، «Audio only»، «Step down by itself on a weak network»، «Most people watching at once»، «Plan limit»
Tip: Most of your students on mobile data? Keep “Saver”: it’s enough to read the board, and 90 minutes cost about 300 MB instead of 810.

### 6. “Where the live happens”: your permanent link
Where your lives happen (your own choice: suggested for every new live, changeable per live): the same two cards as in “New live”, “Dirassa+ room” with a “Soon” badge, which can’t be picked until it opens, and “Google Meet or Zoom link” with its fields (“Meeting address”, “Paste”, “Create a Meet meeting”). Tap the link card and paste your meeting’s address: an unsaved-place notice stays until “Save”; an incomplete address is refused. This is the same “Your permanent link” you save from “Your first live”, from “Save my link” on Home or from “Make it my permanent link” in “New live”, and that “Start now” finds ready. This part is yours even without permission over the academy’s values.
On screen: «Where your lives happen»، «Dirassa+ room»، «Soon»، «Google Meet or Zoom link»، «Meeting address»، «Create a Meet meeting»، «Save»
Tip: Karim Zerrouki keeps his fixed Zoom link here, Wafa Sellami the Google Meet link she teaches on: each their own link, in the same academy.

## After the settings
- New live: Every value here shows under “More” and changes per live: the “New live” lesson.
- The school’s rules: Who broadcasts, moderators, approving paid lives: the “Lives in the school” lesson.
- On air: The chat and stage as they work during a live: the “On air” lesson.

## Questions

**Do my already scheduled lives change when I edit the settings?**
No. The settings apply to new lives. For one live, go through “Edit” › “More”.

**Why can I see the settings but not edit them?**
The academy’s values are for whoever has “All teachers’ live classes” or manages settings or the team. “Where the live happens” stays editable for you.

**How many people can watch one live at once?**
Up to your plan’s student limit, or fewer if you enter a number in “Most people watching at once”. The team doesn’t count.

**What quality does a student start on a phone?**
“Saver” by default (about 200 MB an hour). Change it in “Quality on phones”; students change it for themselves whenever they like.

**Can I turn off the automatic ending?**
You can choose “Closes on time” or a grace of up to 60 minutes, and extend by 15 minutes from the studio when needed. No live stays open forever.
