# Mark papers and read results on Dirassa Plus

> Most questions mark themselves the moment a paper is handed in; essays and uploaded files are left to you. Every paper has a page that says in one line what it needs from you now — results students are waiting for, papers to mark, students who haven’t started — and shows who finished and how each question went. You mark in one window with quick marks and a note for each student, let Noqta suggest without deciding for you, give another attempt to anyone a glitch let down, then announce results when you choose.

- Time: About 10 minutes
- Who can do it: Requires “View grading” for the paper page and the queue, “Grade and score” to mark and grant another attempt, and “Build exams” on the course to announce results, close, reopen and remind students.

## In short
1. Open the course’s “Papers” tab: every paper with its state, who finished it, its average and what waits for you.
2. On the paper page, one line says what it needs now with its button, and a card gives four numbers: who finished, the average, who passed, the hardest question.
3. “Students”: everyone enrolled with their state, attempts and result, to filter, search and sort, and “Remind them” for those who haven’t started.
4. “Questions”: how each question went, the most-picked wrong answer, the average time and a bar per option.
5. On exams, read the “Integrity signals” as counts, not verdicts.
6. Enter the “Grading” queue from the “Academy” panel, the “Inbox” or Home, and press “Start marking”.
7. Mark essays and files in the paper’s window: model answer, student’s answer, mark and note.
8. Press “Suggest a mark”, then accept or change each suggestion after reading it.
9. Review what was marked automatically; adjust or restore a mark.
10. A student let down by a dropped connection or a glitch? “Grant another attempt” with a reason, and “Undo” for five seconds.
11. Choose when results show: immediately, after it closes, or never; and for practice, the “Instant check”.
12. “Announce results” when you choose: a window says who gets notified and who is locked out before you confirm.
13. Your student reviews their mistakes with your note and goes back to the explanation.

## Before you start
- A published paper students have sat; create it from “Add to section” → “Exam”, or with “New paper”.
- “View grading” permission to see the paper page, and “Grade and score” to mark.
- Write the “Why?” of your open questions: it shows as the “Model answer” while you mark.
- Set “Show results” and the “Closes” time in the rules before students sit the paper.

## The steps

### 1. The “Papers” tab: every paper in numbers
On the course page, open the “Papers” tab: every exam, test and practice paper, plus the questions at the end of each lesson. Four filters with counts: “All”, “Needs you” (students are waiting for its results, answers wait for your marking, or it is open right now), “Drafts” and “Lesson questions”. Each row shows the format and the state — “Open now”, “Closes …”, “Opens …”, “Closed” or “Draft” — then “Finished” and “Average”, and a chip such as “3 waiting for results” or “5 waiting for marking”. The button follows the case: “Announce” when students are waiting for results, “Follow” for an open paper, “Mark” when papers wait, “Continue” for a draft, “Report” otherwise. The paper’s name opens its page; a draft opens in its editor.
On screen: «Papers»، «All»، «Needs you»، «Drafts»، «Lesson questions»، «New paper»، «Finished»، «Average»، «Announce»، «Follow»، «Mark»، «Continue»، «Report»، «Edit»، «Gradebook»
Tip: The order works for you: results students are waiting for first, then open papers, then those waiting for your marking, then drafts. “Edit” beside the button opens the paper editor, and “Gradebook” at the top of the tab gathers the course’s averages. A draft nobody wrote a question in says its age, like “Draft for 18 days · no questions”, with “Delete the paper” in its ⋯.

### 2. The paper page: what it needs now, and four numbers
The paper’s name opens its page: the way back to “Papers”, the title, and under it the format, the number of questions and points, the time limit and the state (“Open”, “Closes …” or “Closed”); on a practice paper, the chip “Instant check on” or “Instant check off”. Beside it, “Edit paper” if you may edit it, and ⋯. Under the header, one line says what the paper needs now, with the page’s only orange button, in this order: results students are waiting for (“3 students have waited for their results for 2 days” with “Announce results”), then papers to mark (“5 papers to mark” with “Start marking”), then students who haven’t started an open paper (“3 of 28 haven’t started” with “Remind them”), otherwise a quiet line such as “2 students are answering now”. Then the “Paper numbers” card: “Finished” out of those enrolled, with a bar that splits who finished, who is answering and who hasn’t started; “Average”, with an ⓘ that says how it is worked out; “Passed” when the paper has a pass mark; and “Hardest question” (“Q4” and its mastery), which opens that question in “Questions”. Below, two tabs: “Students” and “Questions”.
On screen: «Papers»، «Open»، «Closed»، «Instant check on»، «Edit paper»، «Announce results»، «Start marking»، «Remind them»، «Paper numbers»، «Finished»، «Average»، «Passed»، «Hardest question»، «Students»، «Questions»
Tip: The “Average” takes each student’s best attempt — or the last one if you chose “The last” under “Attempt that counts” in “Rules” — from marked papers only; voided attempts never count.
Heads-up: Papers with answers waiting for you join neither the “Average” nor “Passed” until you mark them; while nothing is marked, “Passed” shows “—”.

### 3. “Students”: who finished, who is answering, who hasn’t started
The “Students” tab gathers everyone enrolled in the course and whoever sat the paper. Above it, filters with counts: “All”, “Finished”, “Answering now”, “Not started”, “Waiting for result”, “Blank paper”; then “Search by name”, and a sort that starts on “Sort: priority first” (papers to mark, then who is answering, then who finished, then who hasn’t started), or by name, result or last activity. Each student has a row: their state — “Needs marking”, “Answering now”, “Finished”, “Waiting for result”, “Blank paper” or “Not started” — their attempts (“2 of 3”), the result that counts (“14 of 20” and 70%, green at or above the pass mark, red below it) and their last activity. Their name opens their paper in the marking window, and ⋯ beside it offers “Open paper” and “Grant another attempt”. On a phone, each student becomes a two-line card, thirty at a time with “Show 30 more”. When the paper is open and some haven’t started it, the line at the top says “3 of 28 haven’t started”: “Remind them” sends each of them a “Reminder: “…”” notification with a “Start the paper” button, then says “Reminded 3 students.”.
On screen: «Students»، «All»، «Finished»، «Answering now»، «Not started»، «Waiting for result»، «Blank paper»، «Search by name»، «Sort: priority first»، «Needs marking»، «Open paper»، «Grant another attempt»، «Show 30 more»، «Remind them»، «Start the paper»
Tip: “Remind them” works once a day per paper: after that the line says “Reminded · next reminder possible …”. The reminder goes to students enrolled in the course who haven’t started the paper — not to those who finished it or are answering now.
Heads-up: At night, between 22:00 and 08:00 your academy’s time, the reminder is written in their notifications on the platform at once, and the phone alert waits until 08:00 so it wakes nobody.

### 4. “Questions”: how each question went, and the most-picked wrong answer
The “Questions” tab says “How each question went, and the wrong answer most chose.”. Each question has its mastery tile as a percentage, its number (“Q4”) and text, its moment in the explanation if you tied it to one with “9 students went back to it”, then a line of numbers: “5 of 18 got it right”, the most-picked wrong answer (“Most-picked wrong answer: B (56%)”), the average time (“1:12 on average”), “Left blank by 2”, what waits for your marking, and its average points (“2.5 of 4 pts on average”). Tap a choice or true-or-false question and it opens onto a bar per option — its letter and text, how many picked it and their share — with the “Correct” option marked by a word, not only by a colour. “Hardest first” orders the questions from the least mastered, and “In order” puts them back as on the paper. The numbers count each student’s counted attempt only: “5 of 18 got it right” means five students.
On screen: «Questions»، «Hardest first»، «In order»، «Correct»
Tip: Start your next lesson from the hardest question: the most-picked wrong answer tells you which wrong idea spread, not just that they got it wrong.

### 5. “Integrity signals”: counts, not verdicts
On papers in “Exam” format only, the browser counts for each student how often they “Left the page”, “Pasted text” (twenty characters or more) and “Left fullscreen”. You find them folded at the bottom of the “Students” tab, under “Integrity signals” with their number and “Counts, not verdicts”, with this line: “Counts, not verdicts — leaving the tab can be a phone call. You know your students.”, then one line per attempt: the name and the signals (“Left the page ×3 · Left fullscreen ×1”), and “Voided attempt” if the student was given another attempt. The platform accuses no one and takes no points away; the numbers are there so you can ask if something deserves asking.
On screen: «Integrity signals»، «Counts, not verdicts»، «Left the page»، «Pasted text»، «Left fullscreen»، «Voided attempt»
Tip: Read the number in context: one exit in an hour-long exam says nothing; ten in a few minutes deserve a word with the student.

### 6. The “Grading” queue: where papers reach you
When a student hands in a paper with an essay or a file, you see it in three places: a count on “Grading” in the “Academy” panel beside the column (group “Teaching”), a row on Home with “Mark”, and the “Inbox”: a row with the number of papers to mark, and in its “Notifications”, “Papers to mark”, one line per paper. The queue has two tabs: “To mark” and “Recently marked”. Papers are grouped by paper, each group has “Start marking”, and each row says when it was handed in — coloured after three days of waiting. Any paper you open from here or from the notification opens in a window over its paper’s page.
On screen: «Grading»، «Teaching»، «Mark»، «Inbox»، «Papers to mark»، «To mark»، «Recently marked»، «Start marking»
Tip: You can also mark from the paper page itself: “Start marking” in the line at the top opens the oldest paper waiting, or tap the name of a student marked “Needs marking” in “Students”.
Heads-up: An empty queue reads “No papers waiting for you”. If you haven’t made any test or exam in your academy yet, it also offers “Create your first exam”, which opens “Papers” in the course you edited last, for whoever may edit papers.

### 7. Mark an essay or a file in the paper’s window
The paper opens in a window in the middle of the screen: at the top, the student’s name and “Attempt 1 of 2 · 7 hours ago · 18 min”, its state (“To mark” or “Marked”), their other attempts if they have more than one, and two arrows around “2 of 5” between the papers that wait. First the “Needs your marking” section, with how many questions still have no mark. Each question has a card: its text, the “Model answer” folded (the explanation you wrote for it), then the “Student's answer”: the text with its word count, or the file shown in place — image or PDF — with “Open”, or “Download” for a type that can’t be shown. Type the “Mark” or press “Zero”, “Half” or “Full”, then the “Note to the student”, read beside their answer; emptying the note removes it. An answer left blank says “Blank — scores 0”: it doesn’t wait for you. At the bottom of the window, always in view, the “Total” and its percentage, “Save for later”, and “Approve and next (3 left)” — or “Approve” on the last paper, which takes you back to the paper page.
On screen: «To mark»، «Marked»، «Needs your marking»، «Unmarked»، «Model answer»، «Student's answer»، «Open»، «Download»، «Mark»، «Zero»، «Half»، «Full»، «Note to the student»، «Blank — scores 0»، «Total»، «Save for later»، «Approve and next (3 left)»، «Approve»
Tip: Type the mark any way you like: 3.5, or in Eastern Arabic digits with ٫; quarter points are accepted. On a keyboard: J for the next paper, K for the previous one, and ⌘↵ (or Ctrl+↵) saves from anywhere on the paper.
Heads-up: A paper can be approved only once every question the student answered has a mark; “Save for later” keeps your work and the paper keeps waiting, and nothing reaches the student. If you close the window or move on with unsaved marks, it asks: “Some marks aren’t saved. Leave without them?”. And if a colleague saved the paper before you, nothing is overwritten: their marks are loaded and what you typed is kept, to check before you save.

### 8. “Suggest a mark”
When Noqta is switched on for your account, a quiet “Suggest a mark” button appears beside “Needs your marking” on a paper waiting for marks. Press it: “Noqta is reading the answers…”, then “Noqta suggested a mark for 2 question(s). Read each one, accept or change it, then finalize the grade.”. Noqta reads every written answer and every uploaded file — even a phone photo or a PDF — and puts a “Noqta's suggestion” box under each answer: the mark (say 3 / 4), “Why” for you, and “For the student”, the suggested note. When it isn’t sure, it says so: “Not sure: read it yourself”. “Accept” copies the mark and note into the fields, where you can still change them; “Dismiss” hides the suggestion; “Accept all” takes them all; “Suggest again” asks once more.
On screen: «Suggest a mark»، «Noqta's suggestion»، «Why»، «For the student»، «Not sure: read it yourself»، «Accept»، «Dismiss»، «Accept all»، «Suggest again»
Tip: Read the answer before you accept: a suggestion saves you the writing, not the reading. Start with the ones marked “Not sure”.
Heads-up: Nothing is saved or sent to the student until you save the paper or approve it. Noqta suggests; the mark stays yours.

### 9. Auto-marked answers, and adjusting a mark
Closed questions are folded into one “Marked automatically” line that says how many are wrong (“2 wrong of 8”, or “All right (8)”) with their total; it opens by itself when the paper has no hand-marked question. Open it to see each student answer and what was “Accepted”. If automatic marking got it wrong — a correct wording you didn’t foresee, say — press “Adjust mark”: the field appears with “Automatic mark: …”, the badge turns “Adjusted”, and “Restore automatic mark” undoes it. “Add a note” works on any question. A paper you already approved opens from “Recently marked” in the queue or from the student’s name in “Students”, and says “This paper is marked. You can change any mark or note; every change is recorded under your name.”, then “Save changes”. Under the paper, “On this record”: who changed a mark or a note, and when.
On screen: «Marked automatically»، «Accepted»، «Adjust mark»، «Adjusted»، «Restore automatic mark»، «Add a note»، «Recently marked»، «Save changes»، «On this record»
Tip: Your mark replaces the automatic one; it never adds to it. Every change to a marked paper is recorded under the name of whoever made it.

### 10. “Grant another attempt”: for a dropped connection or a glitch
In “Students”, open ⋯ beside the student, then “Grant another attempt”. A window asks “Give Amina Bouzid another attempt?” — “For a problem that wasn’t their fault: a dropped connection, a glitch, a mistaken hand-in.” — and shows the attempt that will be voided (“Attempt 1”, its result and the day it was handed in) and what will happen: “This attempt stops counting, and they can sit the paper again.”. Pick the reason under “Why?”: “Technical problem”, “Connection lost”, “Handed in by mistake” or “Other” — it is required and kept in the paper’s history — and, if you like, add a “Note (optional)” for you and your team that the student doesn’t see, then “Grant the attempt”. “Amina Bouzid has another attempt.” appears with “Undo” for five seconds, which puts the attempt back as it was. The student gets the notification “Another attempt at “…”” with a “Start again” button; if you undo before they read it, it disappears. The voided attempt stays readable in the marking window with a “Voided” badge; it counts neither in the “Average” nor in their attempts, and “On this record” shows “voided this attempt and granted another”.
On screen: «Grant another attempt»، «Why?»، «Technical problem»، «Connection lost»، «Handed in by mistake»، «Other»، «Note (optional)»، «Grant the attempt»، «Undo»، «Start again»، «Voided»
Tip: It is always the last attempt they handed in that is voided. If the paper isn’t taking answers right now, the message says “They can sit it once you reopen the paper.”, and if they hold a certificate from the course: “Their certificate from this course stays.” — an issued certificate is never taken back.
Heads-up: Undo is possible for five seconds only; after that the attempt stays voided. If the student has already started the new attempt, the message says “… has already started the new attempt — it can’t be undone.”.

### 11. When students see their result
The “Show results” setting in “Rules” decides: “Immediately”, “After it closes” (at the “Closes” time) or “Never”. To release them before that time, announce them from the paper page (next step). When you approve the last hand-marked question, the student gets “Your paper has been marked”, worded to match the setting: score and notes ready, score shown when the paper closes, or marking finished. For “After it closes” papers, a second notice goes out at closing time: “Your result is out”; until then their result page says “Your answers are in” and “Results appear when your teacher closes the paper.” or the date, and the “Students” tab counts them under “Waiting for result”. An “After it closes” paper with no “Closes” time releases its results only through you: its top line says “3 students have waited for their results for 2 days” with “Announce results”, and its row moves up in “Papers”; once a student has waited 48 hours, the course’s teacher gets an alert such as “3 students are waiting for their result”, which opens the paper’s page — at most once a week per paper. On “Practice”, the “Instant check” switch sits under “Show results”, in “More settings”: on from the start, so the student presses “Check” after each question and sees whether they got it; turn it off for practice without on-the-spot marking. It only works with “Immediately”; otherwise it turns off and says “Works when results show immediately — change “Show results” first.”.
On screen: «Rules»، «More settings»، «Show results»، «Immediately»، «After it closes»، «Never»، «Closes»، «Your paper has been marked»، «Your result is out»، «Your answers are in»، «Waiting for result»، «Instant check»
Tip: A class sitting the exam at different times? Choose “After it closes”: you mark at your pace and everyone sees their result together.
Heads-up: Rules apply at once, even on a published paper: set “Show results” before students sit it.

### 12. Announce results and close the paper, or reopen it
When students are waiting for their results, the line at the top of the paper page offers “Announce results”; at any time, closing is in ⋯: “Announce results and close” for a paper whose results show “After it closes”, or “Stop taking answers” for the others. Nothing happens before a window that says “Here is what happens:” with your paper’s numbers: “3 students see their results and get a notification.”, how many papers still need marking (their results appear once you mark them), “2 students are still answering: their paper is handed in as it is within a minute.”, who never started it and won’t be able to sit it any more, and “If you reopen it later, the results disappear until you close it again.”. Then “Announce and close” (or “Close the paper”), or “Cancel”. Next, “Results announced · 3 notifications”: every student who finished it gets “Your result is out”, the certificates that depend on it are checked again, and an attempt left open is handed in by itself, its student getting “The paper closed — your answers were handed in”. The line says “The paper is closed”; students keep it under “My results” on their “Exams” page, with their result, and those who never sat a test or an exam find it there marked “Not taken”. Republishing the lesson does not reopen it. If you need to, “Reopen the paper” from ⋯: its window says how many students lose their result again (on “After it closes”), “Anyone who hasn’t sat it can sit it now.”, and “The closing date that passed is cleared.” if it had passed, then “Reopen”. Also in ⋯: “Export results (CSV)” and “Gradebook”.
On screen: «Announce results»، «Announce results and close»، «Stop taking answers»، «Announce and close»، «Close the paper»، «Cancel»، «The paper is closed»، «Reopen the paper»، «Reopen»، «Export results (CSV)»، «Gradebook»
Tip: An exam with a closing time? You don’t need the button: it closes by itself at “Closes”. The button is for a paper without one — the one the 48-hour alert reminds you of — or when you finish marking early and want to release results now.
Heads-up: A paper whose results show “Never” keeps them hidden even when closed (“Results stay hidden from students.”), and counts for no certificate: change “Show results” first if you want to release them.

### 13. What your student sees on their result page
Handing in opens their result page: the percentage and a word — “Passed” or “Below the pass mark (50%)” — and their points, then “Next lesson” and “Back to the lesson”. Below, their questions: all of them if there are 3 or fewer, otherwise the page opens on “My mistakes” under the heading “Your mistakes first”, beside “All questions”. Under every answer you commented on: “Your teacher's note”. In a test or an exam the correct answer waits for its time: “Correct answers appear once your attempts are used up, or after the paper closes.”; in practice it shows straight away. On every mistake tied to a moment of the explanation, “Watch “…”” opens the video at that second, or “Review page … of the handout”. They come back to this page whenever they like, from “My results”, the paper’s row or the notification, and their recent mistakes gather in their notebook (“My mistakes in my notebook”), with “Try it again”.
On screen: «Passed»، «Next lesson»، «Back to the lesson»، «Your mistakes first»، «All questions»، «My mistakes»، «Your teacher's note»، «Watch “…”»، «My mistakes in my notebook»، «Try it again»
Tip: A one-line note on an essay reaches a student more than any number. The link back to the explanation exists only for questions you tied to a moment of the video.

## After marking
- Start from the gap: The hardest question and its most-picked wrong answer open your next lesson.
- Tie questions to their moment: A question tied to its second of explanation sends a wrong answer straight back there.
- Tune the rules: Pass mark, attempts and when results show, in “Rules”.
- Reuse your questions: The questions that told the class apart copy into your next paper with “From my earlier papers”.

## Questions

**Does Noqta mark on its own?**
No. Noqta suggests a mark and a note for each essay or file when you press “Suggest a mark”; nothing is saved or sent to the student until you accept or change it, then save or approve yourself.

**Can I change a mark after approving?**
Yes. Open the paper from “Recently marked” in the queue, or from the student’s name in “Students” on the paper page, change any mark or note, then “Save changes”. Every change is recorded under your name in “On this record”, and the student doesn’t get a second notice.

**Who gets the papers-to-mark alerts?**
The course’s teacher, if they may grade. If the course has no teacher who can mark, everyone holding “Grade and score” gets it. The queue and its count are visible to everyone with the permission.

**Why can’t my students see their result?**
It depends on “Show results” in “Rules”. “Immediately”: they see it as they hand in, unless the paper has an essay or a file — then it stays “Awaiting grading” until you approve the marking. “After it closes”: it appears at the “Closes” time; with no date, it waits for you: the paper page says “3 students have waited for their results for 2 days” with “Announce results”, and its window shows who will be notified before you press “Announce and close”. Until then the student reads “Results appear when your teacher closes the paper.”, the “Students” tab counts them under “Waiting for result”, and the course’s teacher gets an alert once a student has waited 48 hours. “Never”: they don’t see it. A practice attempt handed in empty has no result: it reads “No answer given”.

**A student lost their connection during the exam: how do I give them another attempt?**
First, their answers aren’t lost: each one is kept on their device and sent when the connection returns, and on a timed paper whatever arrived is handed in when time runs out. If the drop let them down: open the paper page, then in “Students” ⋯ beside their name → “Grant another attempt”, pick “Connection lost” under “Why?”, then “Grant the attempt”. Their previous attempt stops counting, and they get the notification “Another attempt at “…”” with “Start again”. If the paper isn’t taking answers right now, they sit it once you reopen it. Picked the wrong student? “Undo”, for five seconds, puts everything back.

**Who hasn’t sat the paper yet?**
Open the paper page: the “Finished” card says how many of those enrolled finished it, with how many are answering and how many haven’t started. In “Students”, tap “Not started” to see their names, or “Answering now” for those who opened it without handing in. While the paper is open, “Remind them” in the line at the top sends a notification to those who haven’t started, once a day. And ⋯ → “Export results (CSV)” gives you the whole list with each state.

**Why can’t my student see the correct answers yet?**
In a test or an exam they appear once their attempts are used up or after the paper closes, so answers don’t travel while the paper is open. In practice they show straight away with the result, and question by question with “Check” while “Instant check” is on in “Rules”. The result itself follows “Show results”.

**Can I keep a half-finished marking?**
Yes: “Save for later” keeps your marks, leaves the paper in “To mark” and tells you how many questions are left. Nothing reaches the student until you approve.

**Can several people mark?**
Yes, anyone with “Grade and score” at your school sees the queue and marks, and no one overwrites anyone: if a colleague saves the paper before you, their marks are loaded and what you typed is kept for you to check. With “View grading” alone, people can read papers without marking them, and see “View papers” instead of “Start marking”.

**What do “Integrity signals” mean?**
How often a student left the page, pasted a long text or left fullscreen during the exam, on papers in “Exam” format only. They are counts, not verdicts: no points taken away, no one accused.

**The student wrote an Arabic word with a different hamza: is it marked wrong?**
No. Automatic marking evens out hamza forms, ة and ه, ى and ي, vowel marks and tatweel: «مسؤول» equals «مسئول». For other wordings, use “Add an accepted spelling” in the question, or “Adjust mark” on the paper.
