# Make a paper or an exam on Dirassa Plus

> Every assessment on Dirassa Plus is a paper: practice for revision, a test whose score is kept, or an exam with a date and a time limit. All of them are written in one editor: you start with your first question, paste the ones you already have, or let Noqta suggest them from your lessons, and you try it as a student before you publish. Every button of the editor is explained here, along with what your student sees.

- Time: About 12 minutes
- Who can do it: Requires the “Edit lessons” and “Build exams” permissions in your role; publishing to students needs “Publish courses”.

## In short
1. Open the questions from “Add to section” → “Exam”, “Papers” → “New paper”, or a lesson’s “Lesson questions”.
2. Name the paper and pick its format: test, exam or practice.
3. Start from “Write your first question”, then learn the top bar and the save state.
4. Pick from nine question types, and mark the right answer yourself.
5. Write fast: Enter and Ctrl+Enter, points on the question’s line, and “Why?”.
6. Link the question to the second of the video where you taught it.
7. Let Noqta suggest questions, then keep, edit or delete each one.
8. Paste your questions from a Word file, or copy them “From my earlier papers”.
9. Set the rules: the format first, the rest under “More settings”.
10. Set the “Schedule” of a test or an exam.
11. Try the paper with “Preview as a student”, saving nothing.
12. Clear “Before publishing”, then publish knowing what will happen.
13. See what your student sees: the paper’s row, its page, then the sitting up to “Hand in”.
14. And after: the result page, reminders about what’s unfinished, and the automatic hand-in.

## Before you start
- A course with a section and lessons; if not, start with the guide “Build the curriculum”.
- The “Edit lessons” and “Build exams” permissions in your role.
- Lessons written, if you want Noqta to suggest from them or to link questions to video moments.
- Your old questions in a Word file or a message, if you have them: you paste them as they are.
- An idea of the format: practice to revise, a test to mark, an exam with a date and a time limit.

## The steps

### 1. Three doors to questions
In the curriculum, every section ends with “Add to section”; choose “Exam”: a standalone paper on this section’s lessons. Or open your course’s “Papers” tab and press “New paper”. And every ordinary lesson has its own questions at its end: “Lesson questions” in the lesson’s menu in the curriculum, or from their row in “End of the lesson” inside the lesson editor — showing “Add questions” while there are none. All three doors open the same editor, and opening it makes nothing: a lesson’s questions opened and left without a word written leave no paper behind.
On screen: «Add to section»، «Exam»، «Papers»، «New paper»، «Lesson questions»، «Add questions»، «Draft for 18 days · no questions»، «Delete the paper»
Tip: The “Papers” tab gathers every paper of the course, with the filters “All”, “Needs you”, “Drafts” and “Lesson questions”; each shows its state (“Open now”, “Closed”, “Draft”…), how many “Finished” it and the “Average”. A draft nobody wrote a question in says its age, like “Draft for 18 days · no questions”, with “Delete the paper” in its ⋯: you’re asked once (“Delete the paper?”), and a paper with questions or one students have sat can’t be deleted.

### 2. “New paper”: the name and the format
A short window that asks two things only. The “Name” is written for you from the format and section, like “Test · Functions”, and follows the format until you edit it (3 characters at least). “Which section?” appears when you start from the “Papers” tab. Then the “Format”: “Test” — picked by default — one attempt, the score kept in the student’s results; “Exam”, with a date and a time limit, shuffled, no going back, results after it closes; “Practice”, unlimited attempts and the result straight away, for revision, not marks. Then “Create it and write the first question”: the paper is added as a draft at the end of the section, and its editor opens on its first question. Where the questions come from, the date and the other rules: all of that is in the editor, where you see the paper they govern.
On screen: «New paper»، «Name»، «Which section?»، «Format»، «Test»، «Exam»، «Practice»، «Create it and write the first question»
Tip: A lesson’s questions don’t go through this window: they start as “Practice”, and their format is “Practice” or “Test” only — “A lesson's questions are practice or a test; an exam is a paper of its own in the section.”

### 3. What you see first: your first question
A paper with no questions shows no numbers and no rules: it opens on “Write your first question” (for a lesson, “Lesson questions — write the first one”), a line saying what its format means, and a “Multiple choice” question ready to write. Below it, other ways in: Noqta’s line, such as “Noqta suggests 5 questions from the section's lessons”, with what she would read (“She reads: 3 lessons · video · 6 moments · 420 words”), then “Questions already written?” with “Paste them” and “From my earlier papers”. Once the first question is saved, “Done — see the paper” appears, and with the second the page becomes the list of questions, headed by “4 questions · 9 pts · ≈ 12 min” and the paper’s state: “Draft”, “Published” or “Unpublished changes”. In the top bar: “Back”, the paper’s name, the chip of its format (you can switch it from here too), and the save state: “Saving…” then “Saved” — or “Not saved — finish question 3” while a question is unfinished, which takes you to it —, then “Preview as a student”, and ⋯ with “Tour of the editor”, and “Delete the paper” for a paper with no question.
On screen: «Write your first question»، «Noqta suggests 5 questions from the section's lessons»، «Questions already written?»، «Paste them»، «From my earlier papers»، «Done — see the paper»، «Back»، «Saving…»، «Saved»، «Not saved — finish question 3»، «Draft»، «Published»، «Unpublished changes»، «Preview as a student»، «Tour of the editor»
Tip: On a phone: at the top “Back”, the name and a coloured dot for saving, and ⋯ with “Rules”, “Preview as a student”, “Paste your questions” and “From my earlier papers”. At the bottom, “Question” and “Noqta” — the second becomes “Publish” once the paper is ready. Each question opens on its own screen: “Question 3 of 7”, with “Next” (or “New question” on the last) and “Done”.
Heads-up: If “Edited elsewhere” appears at the top, a question was saved somewhere else after you opened it: “Go to question 2” opens it, and there you choose “Load the latest” or “Keep mine”. The order of the questions and the rules merge your change on top of the other window’s; if the merge can’t be made, “Load latest” appears.

### 4. Nine question types
Above every new question sit the chips of its type, with “Multiple choice” picked first; beside it “True or false”, “Short answer” — one accepted spelling per line with “Add an accepted spelling” —, and “Essay”, a written answer. “Other types” adds: “Multiple answers”, “Fill the gaps” — write {{1}} and {{2}} in the question and separate alternatives with | —, “Ordering” — the items in the correct order, the student sees them shuffled —, “Matching” — “Item” / “Its match” pairs with “Add a pair” —, and “File upload”. Nothing is ticked for you: “Tick the circle by the right answer — or by more than one.” Ticking a second option makes the question “Multiple answers”, keeping every option as you wrote it.
On screen: «Multiple choice»، «True or false»، «Short answer»، «Essay»، «Other types»، «Multiple answers»، «Fill the gaps»، «Ordering»، «Matching»، «File upload»، «Add an option»، «Add an accepted spelling»، «Add a pair»
Tip: In “Short answer” there’s no need to type every Arabic spelling: “Hamza, taa marbuta and diacritics are handled for you.” The type is chosen while the question is new: once it’s saved, its chips go.
Heads-up: “Essay” and “File upload” don’t mark themselves: they go to the “Grading” queue and you mark them yourself.

### 5. Write fast: Enter, the points and “Why?”
Write the question’s text, with maths between $…$ inline or $$…$$ on a line of its own: it shows underneath as the student will read it. Enter takes you from the text to the first option, from one option to the next, and on the last written option adds a new one; Enter on an empty last option ends the list and takes you to “Why?”, and Shift+Enter makes a new line in the text. ⌘+Enter (or Ctrl+Enter), anywhere on the page: a new question of the same type, opened with the cursor in it. “Why?” is always shown under the answers: one line explaining the answer, which the student reads after answering. Add a figure with “Add an image” or “Image link”, then “Attach”, with “Describe the image (for screen readers)”. The question’s points in this paper sit on its own line: − and + (0.25 to 100; halves below 1, whole numbers above), or type them — “1,5” is accepted. In each question’s ⋯: “Move up”, “Move down”, “Duplicate” (the copy appears underneath), the difficulty (easy, medium, hard), and “Remove from the paper” — with “Undo” to bring it back.
On screen: «Why?»، «Add an image»، «Image link»، «Attach»، «Describe the image (for screen readers)»، «Move up»، «Move down»، «Duplicate»، «Difficulty: Medium»، «Remove from the paper»، «Undo»
Tip: An unfinished question isn’t saved, and is never called “Saved”: its line says what it lacks, such as “Not saved · missing: the right answer”, and the top bar says “Not saved — finish question 3”. What you wrote in it stays on this device and comes back if you close the page (“Came back from this device — not saved yet.”); if you leave, “An unfinished question” asks you: “Finish question 3” or “Leave anyway”.
Heads-up: On a question from the “Question library” placed in the paper before: “From your library — the first edit here makes a copy for this paper and leaves other lessons alone.”

### 6. Link the question to the second you taught it
Under the question, the “Link to a moment in the video” chip opens in place: in a section paper, pick the “Lesson” first, then click one of the video’s chapters or type the “Time” in minutes and seconds (2:17), and name the “Concept” — for example “Limits at infinity”: “A student who gets this wrong goes back to exactly this second.” The chip then shows the concept and its time, and a student who gets it wrong sees “Watch “Limits at infinity”” in their review, which opens the video there. “Remove” unlinks it.
On screen: «Link to a moment in the video»، «Lesson»، «Time»، «Concept»، «Remove»، «From the handout · p. 3»
Tip: Questions written by Noqta or Dirassa Studio may arrive linked to a page of the handout: “From the handout · p. 3”, and the student sees “Review page 3 of the handout”.

### 7. Noqta suggests, you read in the paper
When Noqta is switched on for your account: “Noqta suggests questions” on the add bar (and “Noqta” at the bottom of a phone) opens the “Noqta writes questions” window in the middle of the screen. In a section paper choose “From which lessons?” (up to 8 lessons), with what can be read from each: “Video · 6 moments”, “2 handouts”, “420 words”; for a lesson’s questions, “Noqta reads” names the lesson. Then “How many questions?” from 3 to 20 — 5 by default, whatever the format — and “Suggest 5 questions”. It takes about a minute; you can press “Hide the window”: the questions land by themselves. Noqta’s line under the first question of an empty paper starts at once, with five questions. They land in the paper as cards marked “From Noqta”, each with “Keep”, “Edit” and “Delete” — that is the whole review — and above them “5 questions from Noqta wait for you to read them — none reaches students until you keep it.” with “Keep all (5)”. The first edit of a question keeps it too.
On screen: «Noqta suggests questions»، «Noqta writes questions»، «From which lessons?»، «Noqta reads»، «How many questions?»، «Suggest 5 questions»، «Hide the window»، «From Noqta»، «Keep»، «Edit»، «Delete»، «Keep all (5)»
Tip: Noqta writes four types — multiple choice, multiple answers, true or false, short answer — each with its explanation, difficulty and second or page. She tunes the difficulty to the format: mostly medium and hard for an exam, a balanced mix for a test, easy and medium for practice. If the lesson is in dialect, the questions are written in standard Arabic.
Heads-up: While a “From Noqta” question waits, the paper can’t be published: “Before publishing” says “Read what Noqta wrote” and takes you there. To reject one, delete it.

### 8. “Paste your questions” and “From my earlier papers”
Questions you already wrote aren’t typed again. “Paste your questions” (on the add bar, “Paste them” under the first question, and in ⋯ on a phone) opens a window: paste into “Paste here” what you copied from a Word file, a PDF or a message, and what we understood shows beside it, question by question — “5 questions understood · 4 complete” — with its options, answer, points and explanation, and under every incomplete one its reason, such as “No answer found — you’ll mark it in the paper.” Then “Add 5 questions”: each question becomes a card in the paper; the complete ones save themselves, the incomplete ones stay “Not saved” until you finish them. “From my earlier papers” searches the questions of the courses you edit and the “Question library” — with “Search the question text…” and “All types”, and says where each one sits. Pick one or more, then “Add 2 questions”: each arrives in this paper as a copy, in the order you picked.
On screen: «Paste your questions»، «Paste them»، «Paste here»، «How should I write them?»، «5 questions understood · 4 complete»، «Add 5 questions»، «From my earlier papers»، «Search the question text…»، «All types»، «Add 2 questions»
Tip: What is read (“How should I write them?”): a numbered question (1. or 1) or Q1:), its options under it a) b) c), أ) ب) ج) or 1) 2) 3), and the answer with * or ✓ after the option or an “Answer: b” line; two marked answers make it “Multiple answers”. “True or false” is understood, “Explanation: …” becomes its “Why?”, and “(2 pts)” its points. Up to 100 questions at a time.
Heads-up: No unmarked answer is guessed: the question arrives unfinished for you to mark. Lines that weren’t understood are listed with their numbers and not added. And a question “From my earlier papers” is a copy: editing it here doesn’t touch the paper it came from.

### 9. The rules: the format first, the rest under “More settings”
Beside the questions on a computer (on a phone, “Rules” in ⋯), the rules come in the order you decide them. First the “Format”: “Practice”, “Test” or “Exam”, with a line under the chosen one saying what it means. Then the “Schedule” of a test or an exam (next step). Then “More settings”, folded into a line that sums them up, such as “60 min · 1 attempt · Result after it closes · Shuffled”; inside: “Time limit” (1–600 min or “None”), “Attempts” (1–50 or “Unlimited”), with, once more than one attempt is allowed, “Attempt that counts”: “The best” or “The last” — the one the gradebook, certificates and the student’s result read —, “Show results”: “Immediately”, “After it closes” or “Never”, and on practice, under it, the “Instant check” switch (“The student presses “Check” after each question and sees whether they got it.”, only with “Immediately”), then “Shuffle questions” and “Shuffle options”. And in “Other options”, inside: “Pass mark” as a percentage, “Questions drawn” (“All” or a number drawn for each student), “All or nothing”, which turns off partial credit on multiple-answer and ordering, and “Allow going back”. Every change saves itself.
On screen: «Rules»، «Format»، «More settings»، «Time limit»، «Attempts»، «Attempt that counts»، «Show results»، «Instant check»، «Shuffle questions»، «Shuffle options»، «Other options»، «Pass mark»، «Questions drawn»، «All or nothing»، «Allow going back»
Tip: Switching the format — here or from its chip at the top — doesn’t wipe what you set: every rule still at the old format’s value takes the new one’s, what you changed yourself stays, and a message says so, “The paper is now a test — your settings are kept”, with “Undo”. Each format’s values: practice without limits and results straight away; a test with one attempt and results straight away; an exam with 60 minutes, one attempt, a 50% pass mark, shuffled, no going back, results after it closes. Switching to “Practice” removes the schedule.
Heads-up: Rules apply at once, even on a published paper, without republishing. On a paper students have sat, the first line says so: “3 students have sat it — changes apply to them now”, with a link to “The paper's page”.

### 10. “Schedule”: when the paper opens and closes
The “Schedule” appears for a test or an exam only; practice and a lesson’s questions have none — those open with their lesson. Two rows: “Opens” (“As soon as it's published” until you set it) and “Closes” (“Never closes”). “Set a time” suggests tomorrow at 08:00 (and the close two hours after the opening); then pick the day, the hour and the minute, “Algiers time, 24-hour clock”, and “Done”; “Change” reopens it and “Remove” clears it. A close before the opening is refused: “It must close after it opens — pick a later time.” The schedule shows on the paper’s row in the curriculum and on its chip in “Papers”: “Opens …”, “Open now”, “Closes …”, “Closed”. When a test or an exam opens, the course’s students get the notification “امتحان جديد متاح الآن” (“a new exam is available now”); practice papers aren’t announced.
On screen: «Schedule»، «Opens»، «Closes»، «As soon as it's published»، «Never closes»، «Set a time»، «Algiers time, 24-hour clock»، «Done»، «Change»، «Remove»، «Open now»، «Closed»
Tip: With “Show results” on “After it closes”, results appear to students at the closing time, with a notification. With no closing time, they wait until you announce them from the paper page with “Announce results” — “Before publishing” reminds you —, and an alert tells you once a student has waited 48 hours.
Heads-up: At the closing time, every attempt still open is handed in by itself within a minute, with the answers saved so far, and the student gets “The paper closed — your answers were handed in”. Closing beats the timer: a student who starts a one-hour exam ten minutes before it closes has those ten minutes only.

### 11. “Preview as a student”: try it before anyone sits it
“Preview as a student” in the top bar (on a phone, in ⋯) saves everything first, then opens the paper full screen the way a student sits it — on a computer in a frame as wide as a phone, since most students answer on their phones. You see the end of the lesson with the paper’s row, you sit it with what the student uses — timer, shuffling and drawing included —, then their result, in their words. At the top, “Preview — nothing is saved” and “Start over” for a new draw. Beside it, what the student gets under “The student gets” (“5 questions”, or “3 of 8 — a different draw for each student”), and what they don’t under “The student won’t see it yet”: an unfinished question (“Question 4 · unfinished”), a “From Noqta” question you haven’t kept — tagged in the preview “From Noqta — students won’t see it until you keep it.” —, and a question the paper can’t carry.
On screen: «Preview as a student»، «Preview — nothing is saved»، «Start over»، «The student gets»، «The student won’t see it yet»، «Question 4 · unfinished»، «Preview as a student first»
Tip: When results don’t show to the student straight away, you see under a line “Only you see this in the preview: the marking as it will appear later”. The preview also opens from the publish window with “Preview as a student first”, and after publishing with “Preview as a student”.
Heads-up: “Nothing is saved here: no attempt, no answer, no notification to students.” And if some of your work isn’t saved, it won’t open: “Not everything is saved yet — wait for “Saved” or try again.”

### 12. “Before publishing”, then publish
Under the rules, the “Before publishing” list: a line with what the paper holds, such as “4 questions ready · 9 pts”, then everything that blocks publishing, each on a row that takes you there with “Go”: “Finish question 3”, “Read what Noqta wrote — question 2”, “Write at least one question”, “The closing time has passed — change or remove it”; what is only worth knowing is said more quietly, such as “The time limit is longer than the window: time stops at the close”. The button names what it publishes — “Publish the test”, “Publish the exam” or “Publish the practice”, for a lesson “Publish the lesson with its questions” or “Update the lesson with its questions”, after publishing “Publish changes” — and stays grey, its reason underneath, until the paper is ready, with “Nothing changed since publishing” when there’s nothing new. It asks once before publishing: “Publish the test?”, the paper in one line (“Test · 4 questions · 9 pts · ≈ 12 min · 1 attempt · result straight away”), who it opens for and when (“Opens now for 23 students.”), and “They get a notification.” the first time for a test or an exam, with “Preview as a student first” and “Publish”. An exam with no date asks “When does the exam open?”: “Open it now” or “Set a date first”. After publishing: “Test published” and “23 students see it now.”, with “Send the link on WhatsApp”, “Preview as a student” and “The paper's page”.
On screen: «Before publishing»، «Go»، «Publish the test»، «Publish the exam»، «Publish the practice»، «Publish the lesson with its questions»، «Update the lesson with its questions»، «Publish changes»، «Nothing changed since publishing»، «Publish the test?»، «Opens now for 23 students.»، «They get a notification.»، «Publish»، «When does the exam open?»، «Open it now»، «Set a date first»، «Test published»، «Send the link on WhatsApp»، «The paper's page»
Tip: Publishing to students needs the “Publish courses” right; without it the button stays grey: “Publishing needs the “Publish courses” right — ask the academy's owner.” Once students have sat it, “The paper's page” shows who finished it and who hasn’t started, how each question went, and the papers waiting for your marking.
Heads-up: A paper with no question isn’t published and no student ever sees it, even if you publish its lesson: it stays a “Draft”.

### 13. What your student sees: from the paper’s row to “Hand in”
A lesson’s questions become a row in “After the lesson” called “Check your understanding”, with “Practice · 6 questions · about 5 min” and a “Start” button; a section paper leads its own lesson under its own name, and papers you linked to the lesson sit under “Lesson quizzes”; the same row is on the course page, and their home shows the “Now” card for a paper they started or one closing within 48 hours. The row opens the paper’s page: how many questions and about how long, “Duration”, “Attempts” and “Pass” if you set a pass mark, when the result appears, and one reassuring line such as “Your answers are saved — you can leave and come back any time.” or “The timer doesn’t stop if you leave; your answers are saved as you go.”. After “Start” the portal steps aside and the paper stands alone: at the top, the way out (×), which asks first “Leave the paper?”, the paper’s name and “3 of 4 answered · Saved”, the timer if the paper has a time limit, and the question numbers; then the question, and at the bottom “Previous” and “Next”. On the last question, “Hand in” — or “Review and hand in” if questions are left blank, which opens “Before you hand in” with their numbers, “Go back to them” and “Hand in anyway”. Every answer saves as they type, and whatever hasn’t gone stays on their device: “You’re offline. Keep going: your answers are kept on this device and sent when you’re back.”. With a time limit they’re warned at 5 minutes, then at 1 (“5 minutes left — finish and hand in.”), and at zero their answers are handed in by themselves.
On screen: «After the lesson»، «Check your understanding»، «Start»، «Lesson quizzes»، «Now»، «Duration»، «Attempts»، «Pass»، «Leave the paper?»، «Previous»، «Next»، «Hand in»، «Review and hand in»، «Before you hand in»، «Go back to them»، «Hand in anyway»، «Check»
Tip: In “Practice” the student finds “Check” under every question except essays and file uploads: they know at once — “Correct”, “Not right” or “Partly right — 1 of 2” — and see the right answer, the “Why?” you wrote, and “Watch “…”” if the question is linked to a moment; after that their answer is locked. “Check” follows the “Instant check” switch in “More settings”: on from the start, it only works while results show “Immediately”.
Heads-up: Without “Allow going back”, the student sees neither the question numbers nor “Previous”, moves on only once their answer is saved, and comes back after leaving to the question they had reached; “Before you hand in” tells them: “This paper doesn’t allow going back.”

### 14. After handing in: the result, reminders, the automatic hand-in
Handing in opens their result page: the percentage and a word — “Passed” or “Below the pass mark (50%)” if you set a pass mark, otherwise “Well done”, “Almost — go over what you missed” or “Worth another look” — and “3 of 4 right”. Below, their questions: all of them if there are 3 or fewer, otherwise “Your mistakes first” with “All questions” and “My mistakes”, and “Watch “…”” on every mistake. Then one button forward: “Next lesson”, or “Practise again” for a practice paper with mistakes, and beside it “Back to the lesson” (or “New attempt” if they have an attempt left and missed the pass mark). If results come after closing, they read “Your answers are in” and “Results appear when your teacher closes the paper.” or the date; with an essay or a file: “Some questions are marked by your teacher — you’ll hear when your result is complete.”. If they left before handing in, the paper’s row in the lesson and on their home says “Resume at question 3 · 2/6 answered” (plus “41 min left” with a time limit), and “Resume” takes them back to the first unanswered question with “Welcome back — 2 of 6 answered.”. It all comes together on their “Exams” page: “Finish” for what they left open, then “Due” for tests and exams not sat yet, closing soonest first (a paper tied to a lesson shows there once that lesson is done), then “Practice”, then “My results”, with “My progress” folded at the bottom.
On screen: «Passed»، «Well done»، «Your mistakes first»، «All questions»، «My mistakes»، «Next lesson»، «Practise again»، «Back to the lesson»، «Your answers are in»، «Resume»، «Exams»، «Finish»، «Due»، «Practice»، «My results»، «My progress»
Tip: A half-done paper isn’t forgotten: with no time limit, if they answered at least one question, they get “A quiz to finish” in their notifications — and on their phone if notifications are on — 3 hours after their last activity, then at 24 hours, then at 72 hours, between 08:00 and 22:00 your academy’s time, then nothing more. With a time limit, they get “Your paper is still open” once if they step away for 3 minutes with 5 or more left. No reminder for a closed paper or a student whose access has ended.
Heads-up: When their time runs out, at the closing time, or when you close the paper, their open attempt is handed in by itself within a minute with the answers saved so far, and they get “Time is up — your answers were handed in” or “The paper closed — your answers were handed in” with a link to their result. A paper with no time limit and no closing time is never handed in by itself: it waits for them. A practice attempt handed in with no answer doesn’t count, in their attempts or their average; a test or exam handed in empty stays an attempt — they saw the questions — and reads “No answer given”.

## After the paper
- Mark what doesn’t mark itself: Essays and files in “Grading”, with marks Noqta suggests.
- Read the paper page: Who finished it and who hasn’t started, and how each question went, on the paper page.
- Reuse your questions: “From my earlier papers” copies any question you wrote into your next paper in seconds.
- Write from Dirassa Studio: Questions from your recording or a PDF, delivered to the lesson for you to review.

## Questions

**What’s the difference between practice, a test and an exam?**
Practice: unlimited attempts and the result straight away, with “Check” under every question to know if they got it before handing in (unless you turn “Instant check” off); for revision. A test: one attempt, the score kept in the student’s results. An exam: an hour, one attempt, shuffled, no going back, results after it closes. All of it can be changed in the rules, and switching the format doesn’t wipe what you set yourself.

**How do I paste my questions from a Word file?**
Copy the questions from Word (or a PDF, or a message), then in the editor press “Paste your questions” — or “Paste them” under the first question, or in ⋯ on a phone — and paste into “Paste here”. It understands a numbered question (1. or 1) or Q1:), its options a) b) c), أ) ب) ج) or 1) 2) 3), the answer marked with * or ✓ after it or an “Answer: b” line, “True or false”, “Explanation: …” and “(2 pts)”. You see beside it what we understood, question by question, then “Add 5 questions”. A question with no marked answer arrives unfinished for you to mark in the paper — nothing is guessed —, and lines that weren’t understood are listed and not added. Up to 100 questions at a time.

**How do I see the paper the way a student sees it?**
Press “Preview as a student” at the top of the editor (in ⋯ on a phone), or “Preview as a student first” in the publish window. Your work saves first, then you sit the paper full screen with what the student uses — timer and shuffling included — and see their result as they read it. “Nothing is saved here: no attempt, no answer, no notification to students.”; “Start over” runs a new draw, and what won’t reach the student yet is listed beside it, under “The student won’t see it yet”.

**Why doesn’t my paper show to my students?**
For one of three reasons: it’s still a “Draft” — press “Publish the test” (or “Publish the lesson with its questions” for a lesson’s questions, published with their lesson); it has no ready question — a paper with no question is never shown to students, even if you publish its lesson, and opening the editor makes no paper, while an unfinished question or a “From Noqta” question you haven’t kept doesn’t reach students; or its opening time hasn’t come yet — its chip in “Papers” says “Opens …”. “Preview as a student” shows exactly what will reach them.

**A student started the paper but didn’t finish it — what happens?**
Their answers are saved as they wrote them, and the attempt stays open: the paper’s row in the lesson, on their home and under “Finish” says “Resume at question 3 · 2/6 answered”, and “Resume” takes them back to where they stopped. With no time limit and no closing time, the attempt waits as long as it takes, and “A quiz to finish” nudges them 3, 24 and then 72 hours after they left, if they answered at least one question. With a time limit the timer doesn’t stop: they’re nudged once (“Your paper is still open”), and when time runs out or the paper closes their saved answers are handed in by themselves within a minute, with “Time is up — your answers were handed in”. A practice attempt handed in empty costs them no attempt.

**Why can’t my students see their result?**
It depends on “Show results” in the rules (“More settings”). “Immediately”: they see it as they hand in, unless the paper has an essay or a file — then it stays “Awaiting grading” until you finalize the marking. “After it closes”: it appears at the closing time; with no date, it waits until you announce it from the paper page with “Announce results” — the student reads “Results appear when your teacher closes the paper.”, and the course’s teacher gets an alert once a student has waited 48 hours. “Never”: they don’t see it. The guide “Grading and results” has the details.

**Does my student know if their answer is right before handing in?**
In practice, yes: “Check” under every question (except essays and file uploads) says “Correct”, “Not right” or “Partly right…”, shows the right answer and your explanation, and then their answer is locked for that attempt. It works in every practice paper while “Instant check” is on in “More settings” and results show “Immediately”. In a test or an exam they learn nothing before handing in.

**My student lost their connection mid-paper — are the answers lost?**
No. Every answer saves as it’s written, and whatever hasn’t gone stays on their device (“Offline — kept on this device”) and goes by itself once they’re back online, even if they close the page and come back on the same device. With a time limit, what arrived before the end counts; if something was still on their device, their result tells them “What you typed last didn’t arrive before the end.”

**Can I edit a paper after publishing it?**
Yes. Editing questions sets it to “Unpublished changes” until you press “Publish changes”; if nothing changed, the button says “Nothing changed since publishing”. The rules, though, apply at once, even on a published paper.

**Is there partial credit?**
Yes, on multiple answers, ordering, matching and gaps: two right out of three is worth two thirds of the points. “All or nothing” in “Other options” turns it off for multiple answers and ordering.

**How are essays and uploaded files marked?**
They go to the “Grading” queue and you mark them yourself; Noqta can suggest marks you accept or change. The guide “Grading and results” has the details.

**Does Noqta publish questions on its own?**
No. Every Noqta question lands in the paper as a card marked “From Noqta”; it doesn’t reach students and the paper can’t be published until you keep it (“Keep” or “Keep all”, or by editing it) or delete it.

**If I edit a question taken from an earlier paper, does it change in the original paper?**
No. “From my earlier papers” puts a copy of the question in your paper: editing it touches neither the original nor its results. A question from the “Question library” already placed in your paper is copied for it at the first edit: “From your library — the first edit here makes a copy for this paper and leaves other lessons alone.”

**Is “مسئول” accepted when the expected answer is “مسؤول”?**
Yes. In short answers, hamza forms, taa marbuta, alif maqsura, diacritics and tatweel are handled automatically, so you don’t need to type every spelling.

**I wrote questions in Dirassa Studio; where are they?**
They land in the lesson you chose as its “Lesson questions”, and you then set their rules in the editor on the web; you’ll also find them in “From my earlier papers” to copy into another paper. The guide on Dirassa Studio questions has the details.
