# Connect your own domain name to your school

> Your platform works from day one on a free subaddress, such as nour-academy.dirassaplus.com. If you own a domain, such as nour-academy.com, connect it and it becomes the address your students see. Every step of the Your domain tab is explained here: what to type, the records to add at your registrar, and the checks until it works.

- Time: About 10 minutes, then the DNS wait
- Who can do it: The school’s owner only: managing the domain can’t be granted to any other role.

## In short
1. Open Settings, then Your domain: the subaddress works until your domain takes over.
2. Type just the domain and press “Connect”; a root domain is connected with its www twin.
3. Add the “Records to add” at your registrar, with a grey cloud on Cloudflare.
4. Press “Check now” and fix the first red step until all six are green.

## Before you start
- A domain you own, bought from a registrar such as GoDaddy, Namecheap or Cloudflare.
- Access to that registrar’s DNS panel: that’s where you add the records.
- The school owner’s account; connecting a domain isn’t open to team members.
- A quarter of an hour of work, and a little patience while DNS propagates.

## The steps

### 1. Two addresses: the subaddress and your own domain
Open Settings, then the Your domain tab. At the top, the “Current address” card: until you connect a domain it shows the free subaddress that comes with your platform, such as nour-academy.dirassaplus.com, with “Copy” and “Open”. Your own domain is something else: a name you buy and own at a registrar, such as nour-academy.com, and connect from this tab. Once it’s live, the card reads “Your own domain — this is what your students see.” and the subaddress keeps working by redirecting to it. If connecting isn’t available on your account yet, the tab says so plainly, and your platform stays live on its subaddress meanwhile.
On screen: «Settings»، «Your domain»، «Current address»، «Copy»، «Open»
Tip: Connecting your own domain is included on every plan; you only pay your registrar for the domain.
Heads-up: Changing the subaddress under “General” is not the same thing: the old address stops working immediately, with no redirect to the new one, and every link you shared leads to an error.

### 2. Type your domain and press “Connect”
In the “Your own domain” card, type just the domain, such as nour-academy.com: no https:// and no trailing slash. Paste a full link and we take the domain out of it, and as you type we tell you if the format is invalid, the extension such as .com or .dz is missing, or it’s an IP address. Then press “Connect”. A root domain, such as nour-academy.com or nour-academy.com.dz, is connected with its twin www.nour-academy.com, which redirects to it. A subdomain, such as learn.nour-academy.com, is connected on its own, with no www. A school has one domain: to change it, disconnect the current one first.
On screen: «Your domain»، «Connect»
Tip: Use the root domain if the whole domain is for the school; a subdomain if your main website already lives on that domain and the school sits beside it.
Heads-up: If “This domain is already linked to another service…” appears, it’s added at another host: remove it there, or add the ownership record shown to you, then try again.

### 3. Add the records at your registrar
After “Connect”, the “Records to add” card appears: a table of “Type”, “Name” and “Value”, with a “Copy” button beside each value. A root domain needs two: an A record named @ with 76.76.21.21, and a CNAME named www with cname.vercel-dns-0.com. A subdomain needs one CNAME under its own name, such as learn. If the domain already exists on another account, an “Ownership record” adds a TXT record, entered the same way. Then “Steps for your registrar”: GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap and “Other”, with yours preselected when we recognise it. Every guide says the same: delete any existing A record named @ or CNAME named www, add the records exactly as shown, and save.
On screen: «Records to add»، «Type»، «Name»، «Value»، «Copy»، «Ownership record»، «Steps for your registrar»، «GoDaddy»، «Cloudflare»، «Namecheap»، «Other»
Tip: Copy the values with “Copy” from your own table, not from this lesson: it shows the current values for your domain.
Heads-up: On Cloudflare, every record’s cloud must be grey, “DNS only”, not orange: the orange proxy blocks the certificate and causes a redirect loop.

### 4. “Check now”: six checks until it’s live
Once the records are saved, come back and press “Check now”. Under “Verification” are six checks, in order: “DNS points to us”, “Domain ownership confirmed”, “Configuration correct”, “HTTPS certificate valid”, “Domain serves your platform” and “Email links work”. Under each red one is the reason and what to do, such as “No record found. Add the one shown above.”; everything after the first red check waits on it, so fix that one first. When all pass, the badge turns from “Incomplete” to “Ready”, your platform opens on your domain, and the subaddress permanently redirects its visitors there. “Disconnect” asks you to confirm: “Yes, disconnect” or “Keep it”.
On screen: «Check now»، «Verification»، «Incomplete»، «Ready»، «Disconnect»، «Yes, disconnect»، «Keep it»
Tip: Not working yet? DNS can take minutes to hours to propagate. Wait a little, then press “Check now” again.
Heads-up: After “Yes, disconnect”, your domain stops opening your platform at once, and the platform goes back to its subaddress.

## Once your domain is live
- Share the new address: Copy it from “Current address” into your pages and posts; the old one redirects to it.
- Finish your brand: Logo and colours, in the Brand tab.
- Show up in search: Your pages’ title and description, in the Search tab.
- Invite your team: Teachers and assistants with precise roles, in the Team tab.

## Questions

**How long does DNS take?**
From minutes to hours. Usually 10–30 minutes at GoDaddy, minutes at Cloudflare, and up to 30 minutes at Namecheap. If the check doesn’t pass straight away, wait and press “Check now” again.

**Where do I buy a domain?**
From any registrar, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap or Cloudflare. We don’t buy the domain for you, and connecting it is included on every plan: you only pay your registrar for the domain.

**Do .dz domains work?**
Yes, the same way. We know nour-academy.com.dz is a root domain despite its three parts, so you get an A record named @ and the www twin like any root domain. What matters is having access to DNS where you bought it.

**Do I get email on my domain?**
No, this connects the website only: we don’t create email addresses on your domain; email is set up at your registrar or an email service. The records we ask for (A, CNAME, sometimes TXT) don’t touch your MX records. The “Email links work” check means the confirmation links the platform sends open on your domain.

**Is HTTPS automatic?**
Yes. The certificate is issued on its own within minutes of correct DNS, with nothing to buy. If “HTTPS certificate valid” stays red and your domain is on Cloudflare, turn the orange proxy off.

**Does my old address keep working?**
Yes. The subaddress doesn’t stop: it permanently redirects its visitors to your domain, so links you already gave students still work. If you disconnect the domain, the platform goes back to the subaddress.

**Why the grey cloud on Cloudflare?**
Because the orange proxy sits between the visitor and your platform: it blocks the HTTPS certificate and causes a redirect loop. Set every record to “DNS only”; the domain stays at Cloudflare and the platform takes care of the certificate.

**What if the checks fail?**
Read the reason under the first red check and fix it; the rest usually follow from it. No record? Add it. A record pointing elsewhere? Delete the old one and use the right value. The domain opens another platform? Contact support. If “Email links work” stays grey, your platform works without it, and we finish that step on our side.
