# Meta and TikTok pixels: tie your ads to your site

> When you advertise on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, the ad network needs to know what happened after the click: did the visitor reach your site? Did they place an order? That is the **pixel**’s job: a small script from Meta or TikTok that runs on your pages and tells them. On Dirassa Plus you paste no script: you type only the **pixel ID** in “Tracking”, and the pixel runs on your school’s pages. One example runs through the lesson: Sara Makhloufi, a video-editing trainer at “En-Nadjah Academy”, advertises her course “Video editing from scratch” (4,500 DZD) on Instagram and TikTok and wants to know which ad brings orders. The same goes for a marketing coach promoting a workshop, a photographer selling a course, or a teacher advertising tutoring. The pixel is half the story: the confirmed sale is sent from the server, which is the “Conversions API” lesson.

- Time: About 10 minutes to set up
- Who can do it: The “Tracking” page needs the “SEO and tracking” permission. The owner and Admin hold it by default; the Teacher and Assistant roles don’t, unless you give it to them in “Roles”.

## In short
1. The pixel is a Meta or TikTok script that runs on your pages and reports visits and orders to the ad network.
2. The ID: in Meta’s Events Manager (digits only) or TikTok’s (letters and digits, like C4ABCD…), never the whole script.
3. Pasting: “Settings” → “Tracking” → “Pixel ID”, saved when you leave the field.
4. Pages: home, your pages, courses, previews, store and checkout on the school’s address; not the student portal or your dashboard.
5. Browser events: PageView on every page, Lead once an order is sent from checkout.
6. Checking: Test events in Events Manager or the Pixel Helper extension, visiting your site through its public address.

## Before you start
- A Meta ad account (Business Manager) or TikTok Ads Manager, with a pixel created or the right to create one.
- The “SEO and tracking” permission in your workspace.
- Your school’s site published, and its address (subdomain or custom domain): that is what your ads will link to.
- A paid course or product, so there is an order to measure.

## The steps

### 1. What a pixel is, and what it knows
A pixel is a small script supplied by Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and TikTok. When it runs on a page, it tells the ad network a visitor opened it and ties the visit to someone who saw or clicked your ad. That is how you learn which ad brings visits and orders, build audiences of visitors to retarget, and ask the network to find people who look like your buyers. On Dirassa Plus there is one pixel per network for the whole workspace: one Meta pixel and one TikTok pixel, running together on every page of your school. You don’t install the script: the platform loads it once you type the ID. The card is called “Ad pixels & tracking”: “Connect Meta and TikTok to measure visits and conversions.” It has two parts: “Facebook / Instagram (Meta)” and “TikTok”.
On screen: «Ad pixels & tracking»، «Facebook / Instagram (Meta)»، «TikTok»
Tip: You don’t need both. Sara started with Meta, since her students are on Instagram, and added TikTok a month later to try short videos.
Heads-up: The pixel runs in the visitor’s browser. What happens after they close the page, like you approving a CCP receipt the next day, it never sees. That is why you also need the “Conversions API token”: the “Conversions API” lesson.

### 2. Where to find the pixel ID
At Meta: open Events Manager from Business Manager, then “Data sources”, and pick the pixel (Meta now calls it a “dataset”). The ID is a long number of 15 or 16 digits, under the pixel’s name and in its “Settings”, such as 1234567890123456. With no pixel yet, create one from “Connect data” → “Web”. At TikTok: in TikTok Ads Manager open “Tools” → Events Manager → “Web Events”, then the pixel: the ID is capital letters and digits, often starting with C, such as C4ABCD12EFGH34IJ5KL6. Copy the ID alone: not the “Base code” that starts with <script>, and not the pixel’s name.
On screen: «Events Manager»، «Pixel ID»
Tip: If you already have a pixel from an old site, reuse it: you keep its audiences and history instead of starting from zero.
Heads-up: Don’t make a pixel per course: Dirassa Plus takes one pixel per network. To tell courses apart, every event carries the course’s ID and name.

### 3. Paste the ID in “Tracking”
Open “Settings”, and in the “Business & visibility” group pick “Tracking”. Under “Facebook / Instagram (Meta)”, paste the number into “Pixel ID”, then leave the field: “Each field saves itself when you leave it.” Not while you type, so a half-typed ID is never saved. The card’s header shows “Saving…” then “Saved”. A wrong value is refused: “The Meta pixel ID must contain only digits, not the complete pixel script.” For TikTok: “A TikTok pixel ID is letters and digits only (e.g. C4ABCD…), with no spaces or symbols. Copy it from Events Manager.” Next to each network, a badge: “Off” with no ID, “Incomplete” with the ID alone, “Ready” when the ID and the “Conversions API token” are both there. “Incomplete” means the pixel runs in the browser, but the confirmed sale won’t be sent. To remove the pixel, empty the field and leave it.
On screen: «Settings»، «Business & visibility»، «Tracking»، «Pixel ID»، «Off»، «Incomplete»، «Ready»
Tip: If your assistant runs the ads, give them “SEO and tracking” in “Roles” rather than the owner’s account.
Heads-up: If “You do not have permission to edit tracking settings.” appears, your role lacks “SEO and tracking”. Ask the workspace owner.

### 4. Where the pixel runs, and where it doesn’t
The pixel loads on your school’s public pages, at its address, the subdomain (an-najah.dirassaplus.com, say) or your custom domain: the home page and your pages, each course page, free lesson previews, the store and its product pages, and the checkout page when it opens on the school’s address. It does not load in the student portal (when an enrolled student buys from “Courses”, “Sessions” or “Communities”), nor in the dashboard, nor on a checkout opened at the dirassaplus.com address itself, nor on the checkout for buyers outside Algeria. What the browser misses here, the server catches if the token is set: the order and the sale are sent from the server either way. And the visitor is asked first: once your school has a pixel, a banner shows at the bottom of your site’s pages, “We measure our ads with advertising partners. Do you agree?”, with “I agree” and “No thanks”. The pixel loads only after “I agree”; the answer is kept for 180 days, and the visitor changes it from “Privacy choices” at the bottom of the page. Someone who closes the banner without answering is asked again on their next visit.
On screen: «Courses»، «Sessions»، «Communities»، «I agree»، «No thanks»، «Privacy choices»
Tip: In your ads, link the course page on the school’s address, not the student portal: the pixel sees the visit, then the order sent from checkout.
Heads-up: Don’t measure visits from inside your dashboard: its pages carry no pixel. To test, open your site in a private window through its public link.

### 5. What the pixel sends from the browser
Two events leave the browser: PageView when any page carrying the pixel opens (a page view at TikTok), and Lead when the visitor sends an order from checkout on the school’s address: after uploading a CCP or BaridiMob receipt, or after ordering an activation card by delivery. At TikTok, Lead arrives as SubmitForm. The Lead carries the course price in dinars, its ID and its name. Sara’s example: a visitor from an Instagram ad opens “Video editing from scratch” (PageView), pays 4,500 DZD by CCP and uploads the receipt (a Lead worth 4,500 DZD). The confirmed sale (Purchase), though, never leaves the browser: it is sent from the server when you approve the order, if the token is set. The card has a folded list, “Events sent automatically”. All of this leaves the browser only for visitors who pressed “I agree”: for the others, no browser event at all.
On screen: «Events sent automatically»
Tip: At first, optimise your campaign for Lead: it arrives at once, while Purchase waits for your approval. Once dozens of confirmed sales pile up, try a campaign optimised for Purchase.
Heads-up: No custom events, nothing to add yourself. And online payment by EDAHABIA or CIB sends no browser Lead, because the student is taken to Chargily’s payment page.

### 6. Check that the pixel works
At Meta: Events Manager → the pixel → the “Test events” tab, type your site’s public address in the browser-events test box, then open it. PageView shows within seconds. Press “I agree” in the consent banner first, or the pixel won’t load. You can also install the Chrome extension Meta Pixel Helper: open your site and it lists the ID and the events. At TikTok: the TikTok Pixel Helper extension, or “Test events” in Events Manager. To test Lead, send a trial order from checkout with a real receipt, then reject it in “Incoming”: a rejection sends nothing. The card’s “Test codes” are for server events only; see the “Conversions API” lesson.
On screen: «Test events»، «Meta Pixel Helper»، «TikTok Pixel Helper»، «Incoming»، «Test codes»
Tip: An ad blocker stops the pixel. If nothing shows, try a private window with no extensions, or another phone.
Heads-up: Dirassa Plus shows no log of sent events. Meta’s or TikTok’s Events Manager is the reference.

## Once the pixel works
- Add the Conversions API token: So the confirmed sale is sent when you approve the receipt, and the badge turns “Ready”: the “Conversions API” lesson.
- Build an audience of visitors: At Meta or TikTok: your site’s visitors over 30 days, to show the ad again to people who visited without ordering.
- Advertise with the school’s address: The subdomain or your custom domain, not the student portal: the “Custom domain” lesson.
- Watch the orders: Every Lead has an order in “Incoming”: under “With the student” while it waits for a receipt, under “For you” when it waits for your approval.

## Questions

**Do I need to paste the pixel script on my site?**
No. Type only the ID in “Tracking”: the platform loads Meta’s or TikTok’s script on the school’s pages. Dirassa Plus has no place to paste code.

**Can I have one pixel per course?**
No. One Meta pixel and one TikTok pixel for the whole workspace. Every order event carries the course’s ID and name, so you can tell them apart in Events Manager.

**Are Google Analytics, Google Ads or Snapchat supported?**
Not today. Only Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and TikTok are.

**Why “Incomplete” when the pixel works?**
“Incomplete” means the ID is there without a “Conversions API token”. The pixel runs in the browser, but the confirmed sale (Purchase) is never sent without the token. Add it to get “Ready”.

**Why don’t I see visits from the student portal?**
The pixel doesn’t load in the student portal or the dashboard, only on the school’s public pages and the checkout on its address. Portal orders are sent from the server if the token is set.

**Does the pixel send ViewContent or InitiateCheckout?**
Not on your school’s pages today. PageView goes on every page, Lead after an order is sent, and Purchase from the server after your approval.

**Does the pixel work on my custom domain?**
Yes. The pixel belongs to the workspace, so it runs on the subdomain and on your custom domain.

**Is the visitor asked before the pixel loads?**
Yes. Once your school has a pixel, a banner at the bottom of the site’s pages offers “I agree” and “No thanks”. The pixel loads only after “I agree”; the answer is kept for 180 days and changed from “Privacy choices”. So the visits in Events Manager are those of visitors who agreed.

**I launched an ad and no event shows. Why?**
Check in order: the ID is the pixel’s number, not its name; the ad’s link opens a page on the school’s address, not your dashboard; no ad blocker while testing. Then open “Test events” in Events Manager and visit your site.
